Mixed dates for Wii Play

Anybody know when Wii Play is due out at the B&M's? I didn't register it, so I'm trying to figure it out since so many sites have different dates.

NiCK Crush 02-11-07 07:27 PM

this has been annoying me as well.

slop101 02-11-07 07:30 PM

Monday / Tuesday

But they've already sold out of pre-orders at the smaller stores like EB and Gamestop (the version with the remote, anyways), so your best bet would be places like BestBuy/CircuitCity/Targe/WalMart.

Some assholes on Amazon are charging around $80 for a pre-order.

amped 02-11-07 07:57 PM

My guess is Tues/Wed for the game stores. Wed/Thurs for everyone else.

I already pre-ordered the remote version, but I saw on Gamespot that there is a version w/out it. If that's true and if it's available, I'll probably grab that instead as I already have 4 remotes.

Chances are that it would be better to buy the version with a wiimote, and then eBay the wiimote.

Outlaw 02-11-07 08:51 PM

What is this game about? I'm interested in it but wondering what it is?

amped 02-11-07 09:24 PM

http://wii.ign.com/articles/748/748930p1.html

Basically a bunch of mini games that make full use of the remote. Probably could have been packed with the Wii if Wii sports wasn't.

DarthMarino 02-11-07 09:46 PM

Basically for the big electronics expo from last year, Nintendo had a bunch of simple demo's to show how the remote worked. This included a Duck Hunt game and a billiards game. Rather than throw them away, they just packed them together on this compilation. Most people want it to get another remote. I plan on just selling the remote since I already have 4. Release dates will vary for almost all games. Basically the game ships on Monday but stores won't receive it until Tuesday or Wednesday. Best Buy usually doesn't sell games until Wednesday.

dvdhook 02-11-07 10:06 PM

Has anybody seen this for pre-order anywhere online yet? If this is coming out next week, shouldn't the major sites have it up for pre-order by now? I have searched amazon, walmart, bestbuy, and circuitcity and can't find it anywhere. Or maybe the pre-orders have already sold out?

JM 02-11-07 10:26 PM

It was available for pre-order on all of the sites you listed at various points in time but is sold out now. There was/is a "backdoor" link to WiiPlay at Walmart.com that allows one to pre-order even though it doesn't show up via a normal search there. Also, you could pre-order from NewEgg earlier today. Don't know if either one of those still works...

DodgingCars 02-11-07 11:13 PM

I pre-ordered from Newegg recently. They may still be taking preorders... They were charging less than retail, but then there's a shipping charge:

WII NINTENDO WII PLAY W/ REMOTE RT - Retail (Qty=1, Price=$46.99)

Subtotal: $46.99
TAX: $3.88
Shipping and Handling Charge**: $4.99
Total: $55.86

dvdhook 02-11-07 11:29 PM

Thanks! I just placed my order at Newegg.com.

If there is such a version without the Wiimote, it'll be what... 10 bucks?

That would make sense, but I doubt it is worth their time to release a separate SKU of this for that cheap.

Michael Corvin 02-12-07 09:27 AM

I agree. If, by chance, they do release it solo, I'd say somewhere in the $20-$30 range.

Daryl 02-12-07 10:30 AM

now available at both ebgames.com and gamestop.com, ships with 24 hours

Best Buy In Stock

Those interested in Wii Play w/ Wii Remote should check their local Best Buy. I just picked up a copy this afternoon at lunch time. They were not on the shelf yet, but they were in the process of security tagging them at Customer Service desk near the Wii games display area. I walked up and asked if they were ready for sale yet. The CS guy said sure, I'll check the price for you. I was out with the game within 5 minutes of seeing it sitting on the CS counter. So if you do not see them on shelf display, you may just want to ask.

Michael Corvin 02-12-07 12:51 PM

I preordered at EB and gave them a call and they still have no clue. -ohbfrank-

bahgee 02-12-07 01:45 PM

No longer available at EBgames.com or Gamestop.com

bunkaroo 02-12-07 05:39 PM

I got a pre-order in at Bestbuy.com a week or two ago.

I'll just wait for that.

amped 02-12-07 06:29 PM

Got a call today from the "817 number"

I can pick up Wii Play tomorrow from EB.

slop101 02-12-07 08:33 PM

WiiPlay got a 5.5 from IGN.
"Wii Play makes Wii Sports look like an epic Zelda adventure."
ouch!

I have a feel we'll be seeing used copies of this for sale real soon.

amped 02-12-07 08:57 PM

I wasn't really expecting much from Wii Play anyway, just wouldn't mind adding it to the collection and to the rotation when friends are over. As for the extra remote I can do as previously mentioned and throw it on ebay, but I'll probably give it to a friend of mine as she finally got a Wii recently.

DVDKrayzie 02-12-07 09:18 PM

piked it up at best buy for $39.99 with the $10 coupon. even if the game sucks, i guess it's "free" this way

Eh, I got it for the wiimote, so I'm sure the game is worth $10.

Chris_D 02-12-07 10:17 PM

IGN is full of shit. Laser hockey is awesome (pong wii style), fishing is great for laughs, and the billiards is actually a pretty cool sim of the sport (although not really any modes obviously). I had more fun with those 3 games on wii play than anything on wii sports. Some of the others are a bit naff but take the good with the bad.

Michael Corvin 02-12-07 11:28 PM

good to hear.

Nazgul 02-12-07 11:31 PM

I saw at least 30-40 copies today at a Target in Metro KC.

If you don't mind me asking where did you find a $10 Best Buy coupon? Thanks.

Chris_D 02-13-07 08:58 AM

I actually read the IGN review. To be honest, the text of the review is mostly spot on. I didn't have the same control issues with billiards. And the slightly tricky controls of laser hockey, added a lot of fun for me. As long as you're with some friends and enjoying some beers, expect to have a good laugh at each other's own goals. They do seem to like the tank game a lot, but you need to understand that it requires the nunchuk so we couldn't play it 2 players. My friends all liked it, but I did find it a poor fit for the wii controls.

They also support two-player competitions.

When it comes down to it, although they acknowledge it in the text of their review, the actual overall score of 5.5 doesn't factor in the inclusion of the wii remote in the package. It's more like the rating you'd give it if it was an actual $40 game.

Btw their Gain Ground review was pretty much spot on.

DodgingCars 02-13-07 09:14 AM

I think a lot of people are buying Wii Play for the remote. I can't even find a remote around me, so the idea of getting an extra remote and a game for $50 is what sold me. $10 for a cheap game that I may or may not like isn't a big deal.

Josh H 02-13-07 09:14 AM

The score is just holding the game to the same standards of every other game, which is how it should be I guess. If Zelda, Gears of War etc. are 9-10 games, a cheap mini-game collection that's basically a tech demo for the controller probably should bet around a 5.5 since it's not really a full polished game.

But that doesn't mean it's not worth $10 for those who need an extra Wiimote, and that comes across in the text of the review as they generally thought the games were ok.

At any rate, I'm passing as I hate minigame collections and have no desire for a third Wiimote give I've played the Wii multiplayer for probably a total of 3 hours since getting it on launch day.

steebo777 02-13-07 10:00 AM

I grabbed it today, mostly for the WiiMote. Should be fun for a bit tonight.

Chris_D 02-13-07 10:02 AM

Yeah I wouldn't bother much with wiiplay for single player. But I'd say the same applies to wii sports, just it happens to be a packin in this case. Looking at the Japan releases, wii sports fully priced, or wiiplay with a remote, I know where my money would go in that situation.

kms_md 02-13-07 10:12 AM

i mentioned this in the wii restock thread, but my local wal mart had this on the shelves yesterday.

It still cost you $5! You could have paid $40 for a remote then used a $5 off coupon! I had to respond since we have the same name... The $10 off bestbuy coupon is available at cag

bunkaroo 02-13-07 10:38 AM

Damn, my Bestbuy.com order is backordered, and it's snowing really bad here so I don't want to go out looking for it. Nuts.
