I found a Sega CD system for sale at my local indie toy shop last night and decided to add another console to my collection. This is one console that I never owned back in the day, so I'm not too knowledgeable on the games for it. I know I want to get these:

- Sonic CD (since some fans claim it's the best 2D Sonic game)
- Snatcher (since I've heard a lot of good things about it)
- Night Trap (purely for the cheese factor)

Beyond that, I have no idea which other Sega CD games are worth looking into. If you have any recommendations, please post 'em. Also, if you know of any places besides Ebay where I could find Sega CD games at reasonable prices, please let me know. Thanks!

If you're into RPGs, Working Designs put out a few good ones on Sega CD: Vay, Lunar, Lunar II.
Popful Mail - lighthearted platformer from WD
Dragon Force was a cult hit, but I didn't get into it too much
The Terminator's not a bad platformer.

I really liked the Sega CD and still have it hooked up. I'll go upstairs and check out my games to see if there are any other good ones to recommend.
Most of the above might be hard to find or expensive

Lunar, Popful Mail, Flashback (imo, best version of the game), Sewer Shark (just for old times sake, it's a great terrible game), Vay (I never played it, but remember it somehow, hmph.), and Mansion of Hidden Souls

Dark Wizard (one of the best srpg), I still play this to this day.

Lunar 1/2, both great RPGs

Vay, alittle too much combat but still fun.

Popful Mail, hilarious game

Sonic CD

Eternal Champions CD (a ton more stuff added to the cartridge)

Panic! Not really a game, but it is funny and weird

Mansion of Hidden souls, looks rather dated with the FMV but still decent

Heart of the Alien (Out of this World 2), includes the original OoTW

Shining Force CD

Keio Flying Squadron, good shooter but very hard to find

Robo Aleste, one of the best overhead shooter, much easier to find

Soulstar, decent 3D space shooter

You must own this game just so you can show it to other people who may not have ever seen it. Quite possibly the best horrible game of all time. It will make you laugh out loud.

These are the games that made me question why the SegaCD wasn't popular. I loved them. Although they did show up on the Sega Saturn as well

I know I'm forgetting a few I still own, but I recommend these.

Snatcher - A real point and click adventure masterpiece
Sonic CD - Very good Sonic game, one of the last great ones really.
Popful Mail - Fun storyline, I never finished it though.
Shining Force CD - 1 and 2 all together with bonus stuff. Final boss is a bitch though.
Lunar 1/2 - Actually I would recommend getting these on PS1
Vay - Decent RPG, but does have the Working Designs touches love them or hate them.
Adventures of Batman and Robin - A licensed game that doesn't suck. Very rare.
Sherlock Holmes - Okay, these are guilty pleasures. Basically text adventures with FMV and very cheesy. I liked them though
Jurassic Park - This was a unique take on this franchise, but this is a very good point and click adventure game.
Star Wars Chess - Hey, its Star Wars
Mortal Kombat - Pretty much arcade perfect
Lethal Enforcers - You will need the gun for Snatcher anyway.
Final Fight CD - Another guilty pleasure game.
Echo the Dolphin 1/2 - These games are pretty hard, but the music is great on the CD versions.

Wow. I had no idea how popular the Sega CD was!

After more research, I had to pass on Snatcher - too damned expensive. I'll have to keep watching Ebay and see if I can get it for a reasonable price later on. I decided to pass on Night Trap for now as well. Again, too expensive, especially for a novelty game. As with Snatcher, I'll keep my eyes peeled for a decent price. I did buy Sonic CD and Sewer Shark for a few bucks each. I also bit the bullet and shelled out the cash for Popful Mail based on the recommendations here and the enthusiastic reviews I found elsewhere.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. Keep 'em coming - I'll be picking up more games for the system in the future. I'll bump this thread once my first few games arrive so that I can write up some quick reviews of them.

So...I've been looking into the details of which a/v cables are required when using the Sega CD. Some sources say that you only need to use the Genesis a/v cables. Other sources mention connecting the Genesis headphone jack to the "mixing" input of the Sega CD. I also noticed that there are additional stereo audio outputs on the back of the Sega CD. So now I'm completely confused.

Anyone know the proper way to hook this thing up? I'm pretty sure my Genesis only has an R/F adapter, so I don't know how I'd hook that and a pair of stereo audio cables up to the same input. I want to make sure I don't miss any of the audio I should be hearing when playing games.

you just need the sega A/V cables.

Wow, I remember this back in the day. I probably owned all the laughable games. Night Trap, Sewer Shark (I enjoyed it back in the day) and some car game....I forget, but it was like push this way (like Dragon's Lair I think)

Mickey Mania's another one I enjoyed. It was on SCD and Gen, but I think the SCD version had better music and maybe one or two extra levels.
Demolition Man, I liked that one too. Blow lots of stuff up with "TruVideo" clips from the movie.

I was about to bring that up as well. A better version of an already good game, similar to Earthworm Jim/NHL 94.

My wife and I stayed up past midnight every night for weeks playing Columns on this multigame disk.

I do recall hooking it up was a pain--esp. with the 32x. They all needed power, and they were the big bricks; they all needed to route to each other, and the end result was like a foot high.
