So we just got an email at gamestop saying the game is cancelled. its out of our system and we are calling all our reserve customers telling them it will not be available. stupid activision!
|
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuccccccccccccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
That sucks big tyme! @ Activision  @ Sierra and everyone else involved just for GP!
|
I don't believe it, as I just don't trust Gamestop as the ruling factor as to whether it was canceled or not, since last we heard the publisher was just up in the air.
|
No matter what, this means it'll be longer before we get it. Obviously the developer isn't just going to throw it all away, but ultimately it is up to Activision to do something with it. Why they wouldn't publish this after all the development and hype is a real mystery to me.
I'm sure we'll eventually see it. It looks too good to not make it out. Ghostbusters never say die! Or Goonies, whatever. |
THE GAME ISN'T CANCELLED!!
Got to Proton Charging or the GB Fans Forums to read up on it. I'm not going to go in to specific details, but the game is STILL coming out. Possibly now to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the first film in June. Still no publisher. Also, there's no reason to blame Sierra. They made a hell of a game.. it's just ActiVision that effed this up. |
Activision decided not to pick the game up. Sony, who holds the rights to the Ghostbusters franchise, has said they were impressed with the game and will work on releasing it with another publisher. So, yes, it's canceled with Activision, but it's still coming out...eventually.
|
If that's true, would we see the 360 version cancelled or PS3 timed exclusive or unchanged? Or would that be up to the publisher and not the franchise rights holder, assuming the publisher can enter into a deal with Sony without that sort of clause?
Side note: every lanyard at PAX08 is adorned with a glow-in-the-dark Ghostbusters logo. http://kotaku.com/assets/images/kota...busters_01.jpg |

Rumor is now EA is trying to get a hold of it. |
As much as I wanted this game, I'm glad some game got pushed back. October is both Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero III, and sometime in the fall/winter is MK vs DC and I'm sure there's other games I'll want to. It's going to be one hell of an expensive season or two.

Really? Any links to articles on what the heck happened with Murray and Ramis? That sounds interesting.

You'd think with Murray's reinvention via Lost In Translation, Broken Flowers, and the Wes Anderson films, he wouldn't hold such a grudge against Ramis anymore.

Just got a notice from Amazon to approve the new release date: 6/30/2009.
The art has a Sierra logo on it - is that new? |

Atari has bought rights to publish the videogame sequel to "The Chronicles of Riddick" and a new game based on "Ghostbusters" from Activision Blizzard, which declined to pick up the two projects after merging with Vivendi Games this summer. Execs at Atari wouldn't comment on "Ghostbusters," but sources close to the publisher confirmed it is also picking up that game, with plans to publish it early next summer in conjunction with the film's 25th anniversary. It's believed Atari has a similar licensing deal with Sony Pictures to produce further "Ghostbusters" games should the first one prove successful. Atari is paying Activision Blizzard a flat fee to cover a portion of the development coin Vivendi Games previously spent on both titles. |

Re: "Ghostbusters" game??? (or GoW mod?) [video]
June 16th has been announced as the release date. I'm just glad it's coming out - I remember the disappointment I felt when it seemed like it had been cancelled. I also remember playing Ghostbusters for hours on my Commodore 64. I'll definitely get this on release day.

Sounds like Brian Doyle-Murray has been added to the voice cast.
