How much do you all think the new design would cost? I'm waiting to buy a 360 until the first set of price drops.

I can't help but wonder if there will be a super premium version with an integrated hd-dvd drive, HDMI, wifi, and a 160gb hard drive.

I think it will cost the same or more even. They're adding hardware, so by keeping the price the same, its almost like a price drop. They can even bump the price up a little without too much problem, especially if its coming with a bigger HD.

Id rather just get a bigger HD separately. I wont need HDMI anytime soon.

Maybe towards the end of the consoles life cycle.

I wouldn't expect an integrated HD-DVD drive, I think that would be a waste of development costs for the add-on, not to mention wasted stock just sitting on shelves.
I don't think they would release yet another model(Core, Premium, "Super Premium"), that would probably really confuse people. Has any company supported three models of a system at one time?

I don't think I'd ever buy an Xbox just because microsoft makes it... lol.. i was a hard core nintendo fan before the PS and since then ive been loyal to sony, but once i get the money i think i will definately be getting a Wii.. i think the PS3 is the beginning of the end of sony as a major player in the gaming industry... im not as techie as you guys seem to be so i dont really know some of those terms.. all i really want is an affordable game console with great games to play... i could care less about online play or whatever hdmi is.. i just want a system i can enjoy for years to come... im very disappointed with the ps3.. i dont care how good it is, im not paying $600+ for a friggin game system... so i guess ill be going back to nintendo soon as i have the money to blow on it.. the DS looks good too... i just wish the PS3 had more optional components.. most of the $600 in that thing is stuff i dont even want...

i think nintendo and microsoft are going to dominate the gaming industry and sony will be waving a white flag.. it pains me to say that but thats just what it seems.. the PS3 has been a huge bust so far... i sure will hate missing out on MGS4 though

in sony's defense though... the consoles i have bought from them have lasted... i only owned 1 PS1 which lasted me until the PS2 came out... i had an old style PS2 that lasted about 4 years before it crapped out and sony fixed it for free... lasted another year and a half before the laser started to go bad.. have a slim ps2 now that works great... so long as i dont unplug it all the time after use

anyways thats just my 2 cents...

If you don't want to play a lot of great games right now, all due to that reason, then so be it, thanks for sharing.

While the 360 has had huge manufactoring problems and heating issues, I'd say Sony's track record is just as iffy. The PS2 had a lot of problems that people don't think about, firmware was updated so DVD playback was done properly, backwards compatablity at one point was glitched and don't get started on the infamous disc read errors.

Here's a little more on the Zephyr from http://xbox-scene.com/:

Exclusive: 360 HDMI Proof - HR Pictures and Video - HANA Scaler

>> Here's a bit more about the news published earlier about the Xbox 360 'Zephyr' prototype with HDMI port. It's the 2nd time a HMDI picture leaked (1st time here if you missed it) and it looks like there are still many people that don't (want to) believe it ... so I guess it's time we come clear because Microsoft doesn't and we think you as customer has the right to know what's coming.
Microsoft still refuses to acknowledge it ... this is what they replied today to several news outlets:
"We have seen all types of claimed leaked photos like this show up online and as a standard policy we don't comment on speculative items."

We managed to get some exclusive High-Resolution pictures for x-scene of a 'Zephyr' prototype with the HDMI port. No, it's no retail Xbox360, it's a prototype board ... but Microsoft had to design a new scaler chip named 'HANA' (replacing the (analog-only?) 'ANA' chip found in current retail and dev Xboxes), I doubt they'll do that effort for nothing. You will also notice several other changes to the motherboard.
Microsoft always refused to answer any question about a possible HDMI-cable for the Xbox360 (even when asked for explicitly), but this HANA chip probably confirms the current 360 can only output an analog signal, so an HDMI-cable for the current 360 probably won't be possible (sure they could design a cable/box that reconverts the analog output to digital, but that makes no sense and is not the point).

Note: we can't tell/confirm you if the HDMI port, 65nm CPU and larger (120gb) HD are linked to each other. They might or might not be released together. The 65nm CPU is coming anyway for all Xbox models (confirmed by MS and Chartered long time ago + delay news). And it's also pretty obvious (with current demand and video marketplace) that MS will release a larger HD sooner or later, this requires no change to the motherboard.
They've also got a video up that appears to show a devkit 360 running through HDMI to DVI to a PC monitor.

i'm guessing they'll slip it into stores with little todo trying not to anger any early buyers.

Yep, no reason to include it when continuing to give users the choice instead of passing the costs along has worked so far.

I really do hope that the update rumor is true as I currently have to plug/unplug connectors as I have too many devices with Component connections. Having the HDMI connector would allow me to use one of the two HDMI inputs on my Panny.

Speaking of which... If you recently purchased your Xbox 360 from Costco and these update rumors do come to fruition, could you exchange your unit for the updated model? If not, I guess you could always just return the unit now and wait to see what comes out of the rumored update.

I am in the same dilemma since I need to move the Wii to the livingroom (which already has a Progressive Scan DVD player and XBox360 using both of the component inputs).

I stopped by Walmart yesterday and picked up a Philips component video switchbox for $20. Looks like it has plenty of inputs... I'll be hooking it up today so I'll find out how the quality is.

thanks for the responses. I'm considering taking back the 360 for the new toshiba HD-DVD player. If the rumor is true about this new(Zephyr) 360 i could not find if it will be HDMI 1.3 compatible? this is important for the movie and movie audio portion of the system(for me anyways). Is there any time-line on this rumor(if it's true)? I have a Mits 57732 and wondering how it will look on this thing! This TV will pass native 1080p signal,so this is why I'm so interested if this new 360 will do this.

I doubt that's possible - as the success of XBov Live proves, 360 buyers aren't the sort to buy their console and use it in the solitary confines or their homes.

Me, I bought a game unit, it plays games - I don't see what's to get upset about. (Fully aware that I'm in the minority)

Yeah...I dont mind since really, I only have one DVI port on my TV now and just got a new reciever that will let me pass 2 HDMI sources to it. At this point, the component is good for me. I will most likely get a BD player this year so there will be my 2 HDMI sources (with my A1) so I'm not too mad at about it. Now maybe in a few years I may make the trade in, if its worth it, but we'll see.

I don't really care about HDMI right now even though my tv supports it...All I want is the bigger hard drive. If it's released separately and priced not too outrageously, I'll snap one up in a heartbeat.

Once MS releases a 360 with the 65nm chip, they will have a new customer with me.

I stayed away from the Xbox b/c of the heating problem. Yes, that's a big problem for me... The console should not function like a heater (exaggerated), i shouldn't be worried about carpet or purchasing a cooler station (waste of more money). And as for missing out great games on the X360? Honestly, i can't even recall any games i really really really want to play on the X360. Sorry, Halo doesn't cut it... i won't even want to play it for free (yes, it cost me times, and i rather play something else).

If the new X360 power consumption is improved, i'll get one, just to expand the library of games (for cheaper and more game availablility)

Microsoft commented on the HDMI rumor looks like nothing yet, but what the HDMI and the Bigger HD could come from providers of IPTV and their "custom" XBOX360s.
They could also jsut wait until Oct with the E for all, but that in my opinion is a little long to wait. I am going to purchase now and if the HD comes out get that since for gaming at least the HDMI means little to me as my TV accepts 1080p over VGA and component
