Weird charging the ps3 controller with the 360 USB port. Out of all 3 systems the 360 gets about 75% of my play time. I really believe the online setup and ease of use playing with freinds is the biggest draw of the system

I refuse to buy another controller until Sony comes up with one that has removable/replaceable rechargable batteries. :grumble: link link #2 After having printed so many negative stories about Sony lately -- concerning its battery debacle, Blu-ray delays, and factually-questionable marketing, to name a few -- we're overjoyed to report on a company policy that will be sure to please gamers planning to pick up a PS3. Yesterday it was revealed that the wireless (and rumble-less) SIXAXIS controllers would not sport user-replaceable batteries, and given the fact that lithium ion cells only have a finite number of charges in them, it seemed that users would have to shell out $50 every time one of their gamepads crapped out. Not that this is necessarily a huge deal in a world where $300 iPods are also considered disposable, but it would still be kind of a slap in the face after throwing down $500 or $600 for a console with a purported 10-year life span. Well Sony feels for you starving gamers, so even though the party line is that "it'll be many years before there's any degradation in terms of battery performance," a spokesperson confirmed to Gamesindustry.biz that "we will be providing a service to exchange these items." Unless the service consists of an CSR giving you directions to the nearest GameStop, it would seem like Sony is planning on replacing dead controllers for free, which is a pretty nice feature in this world of planned obsolescence. Congrats on making the right decision here, Sony -- now is there any way we can get you to reconsider tossing a few decent cables into the box as well? |
Well that's promising news. Maybe not the BEST solution but it's better than a stick in the eye.

I don't know, the lack of a rechargable battery doesn't bother me. Maybe if we start seeing reports of controllers dying years suddenly based on the battery i'll worry, but til then its not a big deal to me. Better then having to buy recharge kits or batteries for the Wii or 360.
|
Wonder how this works out . Sounds like we might have to ship back the old controller and wait for a new one or fixed one to be shipped back? Think about it you have one controller batteries dead for Sony to make sure they are not getting ripped off they would need your controller shipped to them to have it fixed/swapped and shipped back to you. Either way they are going to ship a box to you or have you print a label and would have to drop it off at the post office as im sure it wont be envelope size.
|
it'll still beat shelling out $50 plus tax for a new controller.
|
Maybe Sony can set something up with a retailer so you can swap it for a new one right at the store. Sony will then reimburse the store for any controllers they exchange.
|
Just thinking how much trouble it would have saved sony by making the batteries replaceable!!! My 360 is back at MS for repairs again and I have been trying to play Resistance and after playing Gears and R6 on the 360 I can't help but get annoyed lol

So I guess these aren't too hard to find anymore. I saw a friend of mine who works at a CC and he said that they have about 30 of them and got 5-10 as returns after the holidays. They can't get rid of them. I'd pick one up just to use as a BD player if I had the money.
|
I've never seen one in a store, but after using the itrackr site, there are about 10 stores within 10-20 miles of my apt that has the 60gig in stock. Several of them are CC stores.

I was in my local Circuit City on saturday and they had about 10 PS3's just sitting out on the floor. My buddy who works there said they had been making announcements over the loudspeaker that they have them in stock, but noone seems to care.
I'm not sure if this is because they are just readily available now, or if it's because people (like me) just think the system is too expensive and the games not good enough to warrant a purchase. Regardless of the reason, I have to think that this many units going unsold so soon after the launch does not bode well for Sony, at least at this point. Who knows what could happen in a year, though. |
looks like supply is meeting demand in Central NJ. My Best Buy and CC both had PS3s in stock.

I had to get in line Saturday at Best Buy to get mine. They handed out tickets an hour before opening and they gave them all out quickly. So at least in my area, they're still in high demand.

I went to my local Best Buy on New Year's Day, and they had a table right out front with stacks of PS3s from Sunday's Ad. I looked them over and I saw a '3' sticker on one of the boxes. So it looks like they sold a couple, but that's about it.

all over New Castle Pa no problem finding a 20 but good luck finding a 60
|
The 60gb has been available almost all day on Bestbuy.com
|
I have seen the 60gb and the 20gb at Sam's the last 2 weeks. Last week they had the 60gb, and I saw the 20gb today.

Mu wife got me a unit as an anniversary present. I wanted to pick out a game but I figured that if she bought me the system I should be kind and let her pick out the game. She picked Full Auto 2 since she enjoyed the first one when we rented it.
Hooking it up and setting it up were a real pain. I have yet to play anything since I am downloading the Gran Turismo demo for her. She's a fan of racing and driving games. |
I wonder if Tekken 5 has online play vs other players. All the reviews I have been reading about it have no mention about it even though its released in Japan already
|
I saw another unit at Target last night, it had been just returned. I took a look at the box and the seal was broken, so I passed on it.
I was talking to the sale guy and he said that the unit that I saw over the weekend was a return from his brother who couldn't sell it on Ebay. He also mentioned that the last shipment came 2 weeks ago and only had 2 units, one of which the UPS delivery guy bought. I wonder how many units ever got sold to Target customers. |
Okay I just got one returned to my store today, and I am seriously considering buying it. I would get it at $499.99 minus a 10 percent discount. Is it worth it?
|
if you're willing to wait for some better titles, sure.
Check out my review of the system in the features section of videogametalk :) |

Unless you're VERY wealthy, you shouldn't spend $450 on anything you have to try to talk yourself into. |

is that $499 for a 60 or a 20 GB? if it's a 60 that's one hell of a deal. |
