I got sad after beating Super Mario Bros. 2 and Final Fantasy VI. After spending so much time with the characters, I started to feel attached to them.

Yes, a severe emptiness emerges from my heart, followed by tears of lonliness.
Then I grab a bottle Jack.

Are you bummed when you beat a game?

My wife, who really only plays Halo 3 (actually the whole Halo series), decided to play Bioshock with my son. They played a couple hours here and there, and the next thing you know, they beat the game. Today she said "I'm bummed that I beat Bioshock, I miss playing it...I miss the surprises".

Sure she could play it again, but like she said, the suspense and wow factor is gone. She's hoping they come out with a sequel, or something very similar. This got me to thinking, I guess I was kinda bummed after beating some games also.

How about you? Do you 'miss' playing a game because you beat it?

I usually feel elation, joy and accomplishment. I can still vividly recall beating The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time. One of my favorite video game moments of all time.

Only when it's a bad ending like "Congratulations, you have won the game. Press start to try again."

Yeah. BioShock was the most recent game to do this to me. Exploring Rapture and uncovering the storyline was so engrossing and fun I really didn't want to "leave." I'll definately go through it again at some point, but it just won't be the same as that first time in.

As much as I loved Bioshock I was sad to see it end but at the same time I was ready to move on. 20 hours for a FPS is pushing it no matter how involved the story is.

Super Mario Galaxy on the other hand, I was ready for more than the 120 levels they gave us. They could have easily given us more Comet challenges for every level, and more purple coin stages.

On the whole though, no. By the time the end comes, I'm ready to move on since I have a stack of unplayed games to get through.

I keep buying games even though I never beat the previous ones. Maybe I should stop buying new games until I finally beat Blaster Master, Super Mario Bros. 3 and Kid Icarus.

I LOVE Bioshock. I just beat this a few weeks ago as well. I was saddened that it ended, but there is hope. They are possibly working on creating a prequel to Bioshock.

There are also movie rumors, which would be great because that game has a lot of back story to it that it could be very successful in the right hands (but we all know how video game movies go).

I do get disappointed when I beat certain games. You get so sucked into that particular world and then it's gone.

Not usually.

I know once I beat Dragon Quest VIII (after putting 65-70 hours into it) and MGS3: Subsistence, I was pretty bummed.

Both games had great stories and memorable characters. I wasn't ready for those two to end.

feel the same way. heard Dan Hsu of EGM recently on some podcast where he said that he wished he could wipe his memory of playing Bioshock and go through it again like it was the first time.

I just beat Megaman X7 and kinda felt disappointed after I found everything and beat everyone. It was fun while it lasted as a longterm Megaman fan. X7 was one of the only games left in the series I hadn't tried until last week. Now all I need to play is Zero 4 and ZX Advent.

No, not really, because I know that it's there for me to pick it up and play it whenever I want.

I was a little bummed out when Mass Effect ended, just because I ended up attached to my character and was sad the story ended. Same with some other RPG's where i've been interested enough to see what else happens with the characters.
