Touchy area. Confirmations should be required, but the deposit is intended to weed out the deadest-beats. I'd sure hate some punk kid coming in ahead of me and putting his name down with no down payment while I have the full amount ready to go and, at launch, he still hasn't got the funds to pay for his and I'm just SOL because I was denied previously. (Holy run-on, Batman!)

I hope that made sense.

I think I'm just going to stay home this Friday and not even bother.

C'mon Sunday, C'MON!!!!

"We expect Sony to deliver 150-200k units to stores in the United States for the launch;
 That is a 50% drop from the initial numbers.

Less than one PS3 game per console sold at launch
Matt Martin 11:05 14/11/2006

Poor tie-in ratio lends more weight to 'grey market' sales theory

Enterbrain, publisher of Famitsu, has revealed the the tie-in ratio of software to PlayStation 3 sales is 0.98 – less than one game per console.

The figure suggests that a portion of the 88,400 units sold were bought with the intention of selling on as part of the 'grey market', the unofficial channel for second hand machines via internet auctions and retail stores, which label the stock as 'used'.

As previously reported, Namco Bandai's Mobile Suit Gundam and Ridge Racer 7 were the top-selling titles, clocking up sales of around 30,000 units each.
Looks like Ebay is the main culprit! ;)

Jeebus. Do I ever need to invoke to "CF" term or is it just a given with every PS3 launch post?

Shock in store for gamers over price of PS3 - report

Ellie Gibson 09:07 14/11/2006
Survey says PS2 fans are more loyal than GameCube owners

A new report by analyst Compete has revealed that almost half of US consumers considering the purchase of a PS3 are in for a surprise when it comes to the console's price.

The report, which surveyed active current gen console gamers during the month of October, found that 48 per cent of those thinking about buying a PS3 thought it would cost under US $300.

Almost 60 per cent of respondents in the same category said they thought the cost was too high on being told the real price (US $499 / $599 for the 20GB / 60GB versions). Of all those surveyed, 73 per cent said they think the price is too expensive.

Around 63 per cent of PlayStation 2 owners say they may pick up a PS3 - but the figure is lower for Nintendo's new console, with just 39 per cent of GameCube owners considering a Wii purchase. Almost the same number - 40 per cent - of those who bought a GameCube may buy a PS3 this time around.

Compete calculated the demand for consoles amongst US consumers

using data from online retailers, and found that an average of around 418,000 people show an interest in the Xbox 360 each month. Demand for PS3 exceeded that for Xbox 360 for the first time in September, with the Wii repeating the feat in October. At present, with the North American launch of the console just days away, demand is highest for the PlayStation 3.
How could almost half the people surveyed not know about the actual cost of a PS3? You don't have to be an Internet geek to do a Google News search and find out the actual price!

Yes, and it most definitely is, if true.

<s>I think they were all sent home last week.</s> *edit - Beat to the punch.

Maybe Sony is trying to adopt some of Nintendo's strategy where they can sorta (in the loosest since of the term) restock a week later to make it appear that they have more than they actually do to the average consumer.

anyone want to buy some smoke grenades? I hear these will work great if you're in line about 2min. before the stores open the doors.

There was just a bit on FOX News about how the PS3 can't play all previous PS2 games, and that Sony admits it to be so. That's the first time I've heard that from a mainstream news source.

Kocheese99 11-14-06 01:41 PM

so at least according to the article, they are putting out about 200,000 at launch and another 200,000 a week or two later?? I can understand spreading out your shipments but this is stupid. They've cut the launch total about 5 times so far and this is getting ridiculous. If this is true i might have to get in line a few hours earlier than i thought.

ChrisHicks 11-14-06 01:48 PM

is it wrong that I'm looking at a webpage with instructions on how to build pepper grenades/bombs using household products? ;)

I'm not a trained eye, but the XBox 360 looks much better than the PS3???

Is the bottom of the PS3 shot supposed to represent looking through a pair of Blu-colored glasses?

There's no drop from the initial numbers. There was suppose to be 400k for North America. I'm guessing Canada and Mexico each got 100k.
