I'm stuck!

I'm at the 3rd insect find and I think I left the lake area too soon and now I can't get back. Midna told me to call the bird, so I did, even though I think I had 2-3 more insects to get at the lake. Now... I seemingly have no way to get back to the lake. I can't jump off the bridge, I can't flow with the water... nothing seems to take me back there... so I can't kill the last insects!

I believe you can warp to Zora's domain and swim back down to the lake.

I can't figure it out. When I warp there, I can swin down the waterfall and then keep going -- and it takes me to the river. From there, I can't swim to the lake though.

I got it. I had to howl at some weeds. That brought a bird back to take me to the lake! Took me forever to figure this out. Argh!

How the hell do you do the back spin attack thing (the third sword technique)? I keep rolling away from the guy. It doesn't help that he keeps saying, "why do you suck so much?" and then gives me the instructions again.

I had a bunch of trouble with it too and found out that my problem was that I was hitting A when I wanted to swing instead of shaking the wiimote.

That Little House on the Prairie escort mission makes me wish that I had flaming arrows I could shoot at the covered wagon just to end it all a bit sooner.

I think I'm done with this game because of this mission. I've tried it at least thirty times over the past week. At this point I'd rather play ET for the Atari 2600 for 24 hours straight rather than try to save that stupid covered wagon one more time.

I've seen missions like this done extremely well in games before, but this mission is the least fun I've ever had in gaming. The rest of the game was fun, though.

Don't worry about the mounted enemies, just shoot down the birds with your arrow. The birds drop bombs, which is why the wagon keeps going in circles. Once you get rid of them, the mission is a lot easier.

Yep. Just keep your boomerang handy to put out the wagon and kill the birds with arrows by getting close enough to lock on. It took me a long time to do this mission, but I think I figured out what was going on about 15 minutes in.

Unfortunately, the problem wasn't figuring out what was happening - it was being unable to successfully kill the birds during the small time window you're given. Every time I would try, either a boar would cut me off and stop my horse in its' tracks or I would run into a tree or something while targeting. I gave it one more shot after posting (er... ranting) and managed to pass the mission.

Then as penance, I played three full games of E.T.

On a side note, I didn't realize you could lock on with arrows. I killed the birds by manually firing in front of their current positions.

Yeah, lock on is crucial. I finished it in one try, and was wondering why you were having so much trouble with it.

Just to be clear about this...what you are saying is...you manually shot flying bomb dropping birds from horseback while being attacked by flaming-arrow shooting guys on wild boars?

Yep...that does sound hard.

If it's any consolation, I'm impressed.

I did it without locking on as well. The boar guys didn't seem to be actually doing anything to me, so I just ignored them.

On another note, can anyone give me some tips on beating the boss of the Lakebed Temple? I can get past the first part (pulling out the eye and slashing) but I can't seem to lock onto his back.

Well thanks, that partially makes up for the frustration.

I've never really been much of a console gamer, so auto-aim is kinda new to me. I know the game teaches auto-aim for swordfighting early on, but it never occurred to me to try it while using the bow.

Well when I got to this fight I was extremely glad that someone mentioned locking on. I initially tried the first part without doing so, but that was near impossible, so I gave in to the auto-aim. The second part of the battle I just swam above the boss and locked onto his eye when the little tentacles cleared out of the way.

I think I'm getting fairly close to the end of the game. I've loved it so far, with a few exceptions. The escort mission didn't thrill me, Rollgoal drives me nuts and the money situation is just bizarre. I'd have preferred it if every single orange rupee in a chest had been something else - even something like a Hyrule trivia card. I think I successfully removed two orange rupees from chests - that's it. I don't know why every time I saw an extremely hard-to-reach chest I assumed it would contain a heart piece. After the thirtieth orange rupee I should have known better, but I fell for it every time.

I didn't even think the beginning was that slow. I've started and not finished a few other Zelda games because of slow starts, but I was having fun with this one from the very beginning.

The chest rupees has to be one of the most irritating sections of the game. How often do you even need money in this game? I like your trivia idea. That would have been cool. Even those statues from Wind Waker would have been a great idea to throw in extra chests. By the way, those sculptures from Wind Waker were great, and I had completely forgotten about it until you brought up the trivia thing.

I just finished the game yesterday! WOW! I don't think I have ever been more satisfied at the end of a game. I do have to say that the final battle was not as hard as I thought it would be. I managed to get through it without losing a life. I, however, cannot beat the Cave of Ordeals. The very last level of the dungeon is hell!!! Now it's time to play some quickies before jumping into Final Fantasy!

Finished this game yesterday with about 78 hours of play. I take my time exploring everywhere and trying to collect every single thing, without any FAQ/strategy guide help. Although I admit I did give up on
Spoiler:
the part in the Ice Mansion where you have to slide 3 blocks around the frozen surface in order to get one on top of the switch to open the door. For some reason, my brain wasn't working that night and after pushing blocks around for over an hour I decided to peek at the solution online and move on. Of course, it was completely obvious after I did it!

Missing 2 heart pieces, though I know exactly where they are:
Spoiler:
sled race with the wife and carrying the hot springwater across the field to Mr. Goron - grrr.
Also missing 4 bugs I think, and 8 poes out of 60. Haven't finished the Cave of Ordeals yet, although I did get to the last section once. I think that's all I have left to do. I've finished all the minigames.

Someone refresh my memory - what is Rollgoal? I probably did it and just didn't know what it was called or I'm forgetting it, but I can't remember anything that fits that description.

Overall, one of the best and most enjoyable videogames I've ever played, and a fine entry in the Zelda series. All of the boss battles - especially the desert and sky temple - were just epic beyond anything I've ever seen in a game.

Also, agree that the absolute biggest flaw was the overabundance of Rupees. Every time I was proud of myself for finding and/or figuring out how to get to a hard-to-reach chest, I would open it and my sense of accomplishment would fizzle as out came another red/purple/orange Rupee when my wallet was already full anyway. Grrr... After getting the magic armor I just equipped it and let it run down my Rupee count enough to be able to open the chest again and get the money out and then forget about it.

Also, the magic armor - did anyone find this useful at all? I don't think I actually used it in a real battle at any point in the game. The first time I equipped it I was surprised that it was running the Rupee count down constantly - I had assumed based on the description in the store that it would just use Rupees in place of damage. Anyway, it was worthless to me except as a way to get rid of all the excess money. Most of the time I just forgot to equip it, and I very rarely died in any battles anyway, so why bother.

Another minor irritant was the fact that you had to transform into a wolf in order to warp, and then transform back into a human after warping. Why? A complete waste of time.

Also, count me in as one who wasn't bothered at all by the first section of the game, with the village and the tutorials. Good intro section. As you can tell, I don't mind a leisurely pace to a game, as long as it's worth the time invested in the end.

Rollgoal is the game that's similar to super monkey ball you play in the hut near the fishing area. It's the only part of the game I haven't finished yet. I guess I'm just not coordinated enough.

I ended up using the magic armor for the last few levels in the Cave of Ordeals. But I didn't think of using it to get rid of money so I could collect the rupees from the chests. That's a really good idea!
