Wii Memory Cards?

I've been trying to find this answer, but every place I look seems to be a vague one at best. Is the Wii going to use SD memory cards to save games? If so, should I start nabbing up "free after rebate" SD cards in anticipation of the cost of them going up after 11/19? What is the basic size of a Nintendo memory card going to be 1 or 2 GB? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

With 512 built in, I imagine it will save internally. But, other than the few weeks you'd be out the money, are you worse off with a FAR SD card? Just go for it and it you don't need it, no big deal.

Yes, you can save to the internal memory. SD cards just give you more space for game saves and VC downloads if you need it.

And you need Gamecube memory cards to save GC games.

SD memory is dirt cheap and a factor I put in favor of the Wii. You can buy a 4GB one for $50 online and that should last you probably the entire life of the console.

I grabbed a 2GB SD card for $20 AR a few weeks ago in prep. Don't think I'll need it right away (I'm one of those people with a lot of old consoles) but maybe I'll get a hankering for n64 titles - I don't have an n64, and n64 games are fairly large.

Thanks for the advice! From what I'm hearing, my current supply of SD cards from my camera should be sufficient for a while.

If you're looking for a good deal on GC Memory:

Gamecube Memory Card 1019 for $19.82.

It's about $30 anywhere else.

I wouldn't worry about getting an SD card for the Wii for a while.. the internal memory should hold pretty much everything you need for the life of the system unless they start releasing larger-sized new games made for download only. Of course, wanting to taking your saves to a friend's place and all would be a different scenario.

And if you want to use the photo browser etc. on the Wii would be another one to get one.

On a related note... will I be able to copy the gamesave or VC data from the SD card to my computer and back again? I have SD cards I use for my digital camera, and theoretically I'd like to able to copy the game data off of it and clear it off for when I go on a trip and need extra photo space. Then after I had dumped the pictures off of it I would put the gamesaves back in place. Is this going to be possible?

The VC games will be DRM protected (not that it guarantees anything) so I think you will be able to copy it to your PC as a backup.

Not out of the box. I'd be surprised if it doesn't use a proprietary file system.
