Still, I can't imagine Ninja Gaiden being the pinnacle of the Dreamcast/PS2/Xbox/Gamecube era, no matter your personal preference. There's always a DMC or a God of War that does what NG did, but better and more engaging.

I really don't see how you could like Devil May Cry but not Ninja Gaiden.
It is basically the same exact game minus the ninjas.I also enjoyed God of War, but to me, it is a "beginner's action game". The combat is just so much more simplistic than DMC or NG and the game was just so easy overall. If you thought NG was "the same move over and over" how did you ever tolerate GoW? Two things that GoW really did well were the awesome boss battles (although there were only 3 bosses in the entire game), and it actually had a good story (unlike DMC and NG).

To be honest, I never played DMC, I don't even know why I said it but I don't think it is an invalid comparison based on reviews and the success of the franchise.
GoW had a story and a setting; a setting I care about. I've always loved the Greek and Roman histories. Sparta, Egypt, etc. A game set in a mythology that appeals to me will always trump the exact same game set in something that less interesting.
I didn't say GoW wasn't a chore, but it actually gave me something back. I wouldn't have even tried GoW if it wasn't forced upon me by my wife's coworker. For some reason he didn't enjoy DQ8 in return and that is heresy to me
So, in conclusion, in my world NG < GoW

Dreamcast.
But of the choices, PS2. Never had X-Box (but now own 360), and I always loved Nintendo games the best but PS2 had so many more choices that I wound up playing it way more often.
Although I did go through 3 PS2's since the first year it came out and retired my last one this summer.

XBox is the only one I owned. My brother has a PS2, but it never really appealed to me except for MGS and FF games. I love my XBox mostly because of 4 player Multiplayer, and the exclusive games.
