**OFFICIAL** Ebay rules for Selling PS3s and Wiis

I know a bunch are planning on selling and I didn't think cluttering up each thread (PS3 & Wii) was a good idea, so a new thread would be best. I think there was an ebay PS3 thread a couple weeks back but I can't seem to find it. If this isn't needed, mods will be mods, shut it down or merge.

-----------
At any rate: per ebay

October 25, 2006 | 08:15AM PST/PT

Here are two listing policy clarifications that we are implementing effective immediately:

Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii Pre-Sales. These highly-anticipated video game consoles will be in extremely short supply during their initial launch. During the launch of the similarly-released Microsoft Xbox 360, we saw a high number of well-intentioned sellers unable to meet their pre-sale obligations to buyers due to restricted supply, as well as an increase in fraudulent listings for these items. To prevent similar problems with these latest releases, the following restrictions have been placed on pre-sales for the PS3 and the Wii:

* Only one of each console can be listed per eBay account prior to the launch of the console (PS3 is expected to be available on 11/17/06, Wii on 11/19/06).
* The seller must only accept payment through PayPal, and have at least 50 feedback with a 98% or greater positive rating so that they qualify for PayPal Buyer Protection.
* The pre-sale item must be listed in the 3, 5, 7 or 10-day formats, and cannot use Buy It Now.
* The listing must include a photo of your pre-order receipt in the description.

-----------

So ebay is taking steps to protect the buyer, now where are the steps to help protect the seller from a non-paying bidder?

I just had a good laugh on ebay...I saw one PS3 Pre-order that was ending shortly and the bid was over $1800 and the high bidder had a feedback rating of -1. Think that seller will get paid? I can't believe Ebay is allowing people to sell something they MAY or MAY NOT have on launch day. I don't care if they show they receipts they still might not get one correct? That is just plain crazy in my opinion. You pay $1500 to a seller who has nothing in hand right now? I think I will pass...Another great Ebay idea!

Well that is ignorant on the seller's part. There is a setting to not accept bids from people with negative feedback. That guy is an idiot.

Why do you care if someone wants to pay $1500 for a PS3? The seller went out early, possibly skipping work to do so, stood in line and got a preorder. It is worth it for some to not go to that trouble. It is also worth it to some parents for their spoiled kids. Is it worth paying double? Not to me, and obviously not to you, but apparently it is for some out there with the income, so who are you to judge?

I wasn't going to sell, but their 98% positive policy is kind of bogus. I have 64 Positive and 2 negative from some dorks that refused to pay me as a seller. Bah.

yeah - that's bogus. So just because I'm not a super active ebay user (28 100% positive) I can't sell my pre-order? That's fucked up.

I believe most people's concerns stem from retail outlets that have employee's hoarding the goods and then auctioning them off. Obviously willingness to pay increases when the supply is reduced even further by these "insiders". For the 360 launch this was rampant. Case and point, the Best Buy near me recieved 24 360's at launch, a total of 11 made it to the floor for sale. How many people kept their 360? I have no idea, but I have a feeling not 13 RSPs.

So what are the percentages of you actually receiving your pre-order? What happens when the store does not have enough stock to cover the pre-order? Do they refund you the money or are you on the wait list for the next batch? I keep thinking about pre-ordering 2 PS3's thru TRU and throwing 1 up on eBay.

crap, I have 100% positive feedback and paypal protection, but I'm at 20.

Does ebay say how long they're going to be doing this? Until Launch day??

also is there a quick way to get positive feedback? I was thinking of just buying like 30 smallthings.

It's just like this for the pre-order portion.

That's up to you, you can stay on the list for the next batch or just get your deposit back.

If it is like EB/Gamestop they'll only allow 1 preorder per household.

Personally, if it were me selling a pre-ordered PS3, I would def wait until I had it in my hands.. I mean, you are going to get it on release day anyways.. Just do a 3 day auction (since they aren't allowing 1 day) and offer FREE OVERNIGHT DELIVERY.

L&O... Hmm.. 95/5.. So, that would net me about what.. $15? Thanks man.. That'll be just enough to cover the fees!

lol @ tbird and L&O

This topic scared me with the 98%, 50 feedback rule. Then I realized it's only for preorders. Phew!

Could mess up some people who wanted to sell the preorder ahead of time to have cash to pay off the preorder I suppose. But not a big deal for anyone that has a credit card.

They should put the same feedback restriction on bidders as well though to protect the sellers (and this is coming from someone that hates when people buy shit just to flip on eBay).

I thought that the launch date for the PS3 was in March! It's coming out in Nov?

Probably confused as it was originally slated to come out in March 2006. Has been slated for this fall since early this year and exact date was confirmed at or around E3 in may.

Yeah, that too, so double reason for confusion.
