The bottom line is this - if there were only one production run and it was only available that one release day then yes... it would be rare. However it will be made in abundance and will be clogging the shelves for years to come. So no, it will definitely not be rare. Release day will not be the only opportunity to pick one up.

Desperation to be the first to own something does not mean that the item is rare. It just means there are a lot of suckers out there.
you are very confused. something being rare does not imply that it is going to increase in value over time. it simply means it is RARE. from the release date through the end of the year and possibly through the winter, the PS3 IS going to be rare...hard to find...uncommon...everyone that wants one will not be able to buy one... sparse...low in numbers......RARE. it will not likely be rare come next summer.

Yup they are enforcing the 30 day rule. Check on the 17th, you'll see a ton of listings.

You have a good point.

There certainly will be a tipping point of how many people are willing to be above MSRP to get one sooner. If too many people are buying them and putting them on Ebay, prices will eventually fall and some may end up not selling.

Just depends on how many more people are buying to put on ebay with the PS3 compared to the 360 or PS2 on whether or not they exceed this tipping point.

Considering it looks like they'll still allow sales once the PS3s are actually in people's hands, I would say, almost none.
