Just got back from Target that opened at 8am here. There were lots of unhappy people who were freaking out about not getting a Wii. Many were shocked that people actually camped outside for the Wii. They really thought they could show up at 8am and get one. My personal favorite was this one lady was crying and screaming 'but what are we going to do now?!?!'.
I was embarassed for her.
I left with my bottled water and the Christmas with the Rat Pack CD.

alright, kdubby, you are a senior member... that sig is way out of control. 5 line max. Looks like you have about 12 with the quote boxes and line breaks. Same to you Vespertillo. Do you guys mind shrinking them a bit? Thanks.

I got to Target at 4:30 am. They had 51 units and a bunch of people in line. It was hard to count because of tents and stuff but I just decided to wait and hope. At 7am they handed out tickets and I got the last ticket! Number 51!

My friends told me the line they were in at Target didn't finally fill up until around 4AM. Also said there was a guy who hung around since about 7 last night with his friends who told everyone he didn't want a Wii, then when they gave out tickets this morning decided he did, which screwed over a girl who had been last in line. My friend said everybody was pissed at him for doing that, since apparently all night long he was trash-talking the Wii.
I'm glad to hear that at least the Nintendo crowd isn't ready and willing to maim and kill others in order to get a console...

Well, I'm hoping my WalMart will have any when I go in a few hours. I live in a town with only about 3,000 people and WalMart is the only place that would any, so I'm holding out for some hope in that a.)they even got any and b.) if they did, there's still some left.
Knowing my luck, they would be out of them, and Zelda would be in the case laughing at me.

Amazing. It really didn't seem like the demand for the Wii was going to be huge. I guess all the people that didn't get PS3s are waiting in line for them.

I went with my brother last night to Wal-Mart to get a Wii. We got there at about 7pm, and we were 15/20 in line. The line filled up around 9pm, and a few extra people showed up a little after that. Wal-Mart was telling people they got "at least 20". Well, it turned out to be exactly 20, and some people seemed pretty shocked about not getting one. Contrast this with the GameCube launch, where I arrived at 11:30pm at the exact same store, and was 7th in line of the 12 people that finally showed up.

I think these lines are the norm simply becuase of the ebay factor now. Not really because of any support. The PS3 launch being such big news, esp. the ebay auctions (saw them talking about on the today show) also prob drove the amount of interest, people thinking there's an easy 1-2 grand. At least they'll be feeling pretty dumb when they try to get it.
I really was thinking I could walk up at opening but after seeing lines last night figurd why bother.
I'll pick it up in a few weeks when it's less stressful.
Congrats to those who got it though

I'm pretty surprised at the lines. I drove around this morning and I obviously under estimated the level of demand. Mind you I walked into walmart last night at 12:02 pm and got one i'm just shocked the lines are so long this morning!

What a wiikend!
Last night I took Trixie out for her birthday to see Chicago in concert... it was an amazing experience! After that, went home and picked up my stepson to try to get a Wii at midnight. Both Super Walmarts had 20 units each, but there were already 20+ people in line, so we went home empty handed.
This morning, I'm sitting in my home office, reading DVD Talk (@7:20am) and ran across Flay's post in this thread (#447) and thought, "what the heck, why not give it a try...".
So we get dressed, and get out to Target @ about 7:50am. Person #1 in line says that the store only has 24 units and all tickets have been handed out. I reply, "well I'm already out of bed so I might as well wait a few minutes... who knows, maybe one of you people's credit cards will be denied." (there was a wave of laughter).
That's when a woman suddenly shoves a ticket in my hand. I'm stunned. I ask her what it is, and that's when the teen behind her (wasn't her son) says that he was fiddling with his card (#13) and noticed that he had an extra one (#14). She immediately grabbed it from him and gave it to me. I thanked the kid and he was happy to help someone out.
So after getting skunked out of one at both Walmarts the night before, I end up at Target 10 minutes before they open and get a Wii, extra wiimote, nunchuck, classic controller, and Super Monkeyball.
God sure loves me.
-----------------
It looks like interest and demand for the Wii has been very underestimated. I really didn't think that every store would have campers for all of their allocated units. If the firsthand reports show the Wii to be just as much fun as we all think it will be, it might get MORE difficult to find one in the coming weeks.

Our Target had around 40 units, and looks like the person showing up around 6 to 6:30am got the last one. They were out of regular controllers and did not receive their nunchuks yet. I did pick up 3 games to get the 20 dollar gift card.

I had to go out this morning to get some mailing supplies - there were loooong lines at the three stores that would carry Wii's that I went by (Circuit City, Target, and Best Buy). Needless to say, I didn't get one, but I wanted to read reviews first anyway.

No luck in Sacramento. I went out at midnight to a couple of Walmarts but they turned out not to be 24hrs, one had a line, one didnt. Went this morning to Target but they were all accounted for. The walmart with no line the night before was sold out as well.
