Nintendo knows the sweet spot is $250 to get yourself in the door.
I've always looked at <$300 as my time to jump in the pool on any device, tivo (2002), dvd player(1998) , dvd recorder (2003) etc. That price has me thinking about this purchase. But adding the extra controller and cables.. well that pulls it back again. So the question is, buy it for $250 hook it up with basic cables and skip the extra controller for awhile? or Wait for first price reduction, which could be 6 mos or 2 years... I guess the thing that may drive it home is make it a christmas gift and hide that second controller cost in your mind in "misc" purchases for that month. |
If I have my way I'll get 2 at launch so I don't have to fight with the kids for playing time.

the thing that bugs me most about the WII is lack of HD. They could have at least done 720p.
Other than that, I'm pumped for it. |
Well, I think I am officially in. I managed to sell my mint [complete]copy of Ocarina of Time for the N64 for $50 on half.com.
Bittersweet too, since I sold my mint [complete]copies of Mega Man 1, 2, & 3($75 ea.) to purchase the Gamecube. So that puts me over the edge. I'm still miffed about this component thing, but what're ya gonna do? |

I had an extra, unopened LoZ: Collector's Edition I dumped off on eBay for about $60 before all the VC came out knowing its stock would probably plummet.
Original N64 cartridge? I never could. Tell me it wasn't the Gold Edition, Corvin! |
Oh yea. Launch day copy, shiny gold cover. It is either:
1. Keep game for a system I don't own anymore and collect dust 2. Sell game for a decent amount and put the money towards something that won't collect dust. I opted for option #2(shipped it out an hour ago as a matter of fact). Also sold my Free Gamecube Zelda Ocarina & Master Quest disc for $50 to put towards the Wii. I still have the 4 game combo freebie disc(sealed) for me if I ever have the urge to play them. She was a beauty though. http://img247.imageshack.us/img247/9...ompleteia8.jpg I still have a release day copy of Majora's Mask still in the shrink wrap(slit open, but still there) as well that I need to unload. I still have my mint [complete] release day copy of A Link to the Past SNES to unload also. All look just as purdy as this one. Any takers? :) |
I'm going to buy one but not when it first comes out. Probably sometime around SEP 07. I think its the best next gen system coming out. This might change after I have play tested it. The thing I hated about the GC was the controller and the price of games IE SSBM is $29.99 instead of $19.00 still. But it the WII is the only system I'm buying games for the price of games might not be a big issue.

Ah, didn't realize you didn't have an N64, that would make a difference.

Of course I'm still getting one. This is still the most inexpensive system by a long shot. I still can't justify ever paying $400 for a system ever again. Plus it looks like it will provide the most unique experience in gaming, in addition to have Zelda at launch, means I'll be there on launch day!
|
Yes, but I'm not sure if I'll get one at launch. Zelda is the only game that I'd be willing to pay full price for. I'll want Monkey Ball and Trauma Center, but like many launch games over the years, you'll probably be able to get them used (or maybe even new) for $10-$20 in the not-too-distant future, since so many people will have them.
Disappointments: - Gamecube component cable can't be used - Launch lineup isn't as strong as I had (foolishly) hoped - VC prices are bad. I already own legit copies of the games I'd want, but one system for everything would be nice. The dollar-to-point ratio sucks. I was hoping that you'd get free points with a Wii game purchase, but no mention of that (yet). - Controller price - Still no digital audio out and no HD (but we've known that for a while) |

So there you go. A guage to go by with your auctions. :) |
None of the choices apply to me either. I plan on getting a Wii but it probably won't be until sometime in 2007. The way Nintendo is handling the whole thing especially with the controller kinda turned me off from getting one at launch.
|
I'm getting one, probably for my birthday in 2007 :)

Ever since I was forced to eat my words on the DS (originally, I thought it was the dumbest idea ever), I'm definitely in line for a Wii. Maybe it's because I have two kids in the house, or that I want a system that just focuses on games and is affordable, but I gotta have it.
On a side note - seems like Ubisoft's doing with the Wii what they did with Xbox Live - proving that it's actually cool (remember when Ubi had the only good Live games?). I'll be interested (though I won't buy it AGAIN, sheesh) to see how they port Far Cry over. |
At launch with 5 games so far.
|
I'm getting one, but I'm still not sold on the controller. I sold my XBox so I'm systemless right now. I'm borrowing a Gamecube and I prefer Nintendo's exclusive games over the other sytems.
So, I will buy the Wii and even if the new control system is somewhat of a disappointment it will be worth the $250, for me, to get the Cube's games I haven't played plus the VC games. As long as the Wii is not a complete flop and dies quickly like the Dreamcast it will be worth the $250 for the Cube and VC's games alone. Over the past 5 years I've probably played only 5 non sports games on any system. And I was always a Sega loyalists so I missed out on a lot of the older Nintendo, so I got a lot of catching up to do. Edited to add: I prefer the later release date since I'm finally graduating college in Dec and I'll actually have time to get back into gaming again. I plan to get a Wii during launch but I probably won't play it until around Christmas though. I wish Mario and or Sonic was a launch title though. Those are the two games I'm looking forward to most. I'll probably do an online rental subscription and pick up a few Wii games and try them out, just to try the system out. I also hope they get licensed sports games during 2007. |

Madden is a launch title and they supported the GC. |
