Pick out some xbox games for me

Just got a new (used) xbox classic (not a 360). Now I need some games!

Also have the HDTV adapter, so 480p/720p support is a bonus.

Lastly, I am cheeep. So I'm looking for slightly older games that are still great.

For example, I picked up a used PGR 2 at the local shop for 4.99. Don't know
if it's any good, but I hope so. Got Mechassault for 2.99 (so I can softmod soon).

thanks!

Give Mafia a try. The console controls aren't as good as the PC, the reason for a lot of negative reviews, but it has a great GTA style world to explore.

Beyond good & evil

There are a bunch of threads that ask for suggestions. I'd suggest doing a search and gathering results from there.

If you could tell us what genres of games you enjoy, it'd be easier to narrow down the suggestions.

Thanks, guys. Keep 'em coming. I'll look at what has been posted so far.

I don't want to post my favorite genres. If anything, I'm looking for the best of each genre, plus some groundbreaking games a la Jet Set Radio, Crazy Taxi, and Space Channel 5, all of which I played and loved on the Dreamcast.

And I managed to get in 10 minutes of PGR 2. Looks like this ones a keeper!

I just picked up Oddworld: Strabger's Wrath from the Toys R Us sale and it is really great. The Hulk: Ultimate Destruction is good and can be found for pretty cheap.

My suggestions for great, older/cheap Xbox games include:
- Burnout 3 (easily the best racing game I've ever played)
- Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (Game of the Year Edition) (Immersive RPG, I found it very difficult to get into, about 100 hours of gameplay though great for $20)
- Fable: The Lost Chapters (Greatest Hits game ($20), good/easier RPG)
- Jade Empire (A pretty good RPG/fighting game)
- Mercenaries (Greatest Hits game, Like GTA but more fun IMO)
- Ninja Gaiden Black (very difficult, but fun to play. About $20)
- X-Men Legends 1 (great co-op game, fun to play solo too, About $20)

Also Halos obviously,

And if you're into sports games, my choices are:
- MVP Baseball 2005
- MVP NCAA Baseball 2006
- ESPN NFL 2k5

All which are $20 or less (albiet a bit outdated)

From your list, if you haven't I would obviously suggest Jet Set Radio Future. I didn't like it as much as the dreamcast version, but it's still damn fun.

You're looking for the best, so you should check out Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. It's an X-Box (and PC) exclusive and I would say it's one of the top ten games on the X-box.

Thanks, guys. Based on your recommendations, I read some online reviews and it looks like I'll pick up

Riddick, Burnout, JSRF, Mercenaries and Psychonauts just to start. All of the others sound good, but I only have so much time!

Another question, though.

For racing games, does having a wheel make that much of a difference?

(I'll be out of the country for a week starting tomorrow, so I won't be able to reply.)

I mostly play sports games.

NBA 2K6 and Tiger Wood's PGA Tour 2006 are two of my favorites.
