FIFA World Cup: Germany
Has anyone been playing this? I just picked it up for 360. It's a HUGE upgrade from their release of FIFA 06 on 360. This clearly wasn't just a straight port with higher res graphics. You can tell they somewhat copied Winning Eleven with the controls which isn't a bad thing at all. I'd say the best part about it is the presentation. When a game is about to start and the crowd is going crazy it really gets you into it. The only thing that upsets me is that the current gen versions sell for $29.99 yet the 360 version was still $59.99. Other than that it was a great purchase.

Amazon currently has the game for $39.99 if anyone is interested.

(I think this has the DVD talk referral in it, if not, mods feel free to alter).

I got a used copy free in last week's B2G1Free sale at Gamestop. I'm not very good with all the advance controls, but I still have fun with it. My only gameplay gripe is sometimes it seems I'm not in control of my player - the CPU and I both jump for a ball in the air, he either always gets it, or we both bounce away from the ball, but his recovery time is much faster than mine and he gets to the ball while my guy is still staggering away. My minor presentation gripe is the crowd chants are kind of dull and repetitive - where's the singing and loud chanting? Still a fun game that I can't stop playing, and at $40 the 360 version is worth it.

I finished it last week and was shocked at how expansive it was. It's night and day compared to the horrific FIFA 06: Road to the FIFA World Cup.

I bought it and I've been playing it for the last little while. I find it to be a lot of fun and it's definitely a well-developed game. I just qualified for the World Cup and I've played my first two games. Definitely worth checking out, at least, in my opinion.

Can someone explain to me how to do skill moves. I haven't really been able to figure it out, and there's no page on gamefaqs for this game. If it matters, I have it on the 360.

well, it's pretty fun and i can tell it will take me a while to master it better. for example, the skill moves... just adding one button at a time (sort of). can't compare it to the earlier Road to the World Cup as i did not own that game.
however, i find the player graphics to be quite grotesque. and the interface is kind of annoying as it constantly asks to select your hard drive for saves. if autosave is on, you figure it would just save it, rather than asking for your input every time it wants to. also, several times, it has given me a "dirty disc error" which is irritating. not sure if that is an xbox or ea issue.
is Winning Eleven even in development for the xbox360?

i agree w/ daryl with the Computer AI seeming to have an advantage in terms of possession/recovery. also, even though i changed the "auto player switching setting" to 0, it seems to occasionally revert to the default 5 setting. haven't figured that out yet.

I purchased FIFA 06 (non world cup edition). It's a great looking game, but, I can't fricken score. The last FIFA game that I bought was mabye 02, and could do pretty well with it. Sigh.

OK, this Global Challenge thing has set a new standard of video game frustration. Some of these are impossible to complete, especially given the fast running clock - why can't I change the settings in game? One of them is like: you're down 3-1 in the 71st minute, you have to at least tie the game. Well, even if I can miraculously get the first needed goal by say the 81st minute (like once out of every 25 tries) - the CPU team merely plays keep away and I don't even touch the ball for the remaining 10 "minutes" (which is really like 55 seconds in realtime).
The crappy 7 page instruction manual says hit "B" to tackle - this never works for me, and yet the computer steals the ball from me with the slightest touch. This game has some flakey (others might call it "bullshit") CPU AI where when you push a button, two things happen: one for you, one for the CPU. When you hit the button to pass, the CPU defender goes for the ball at the EXACT same time . If you hit the button to tackle or slide tackle, the CPU does an evasive manuever at the EXACT same time as your button press. And don't get me started on how the CPU players are 300 times smarter than every CPU controlled player on my team.

I'm going to attempt to do all of those. I've only done the first one thus far - I was the Ivory Coast and I beat the other team 7-2 after being down 2-1.
I'm pissed off at the game because I got all of the way to the Semi-finals with Canada, and Argentina beat me 3-2. I was used to destroying everyone, heh.

I completed the Africa, Asia, and Europe challenges. North America has the one I described above. Oceania has one where you're up 8-0 but need 5 more goals. The other team doesn't play like a team down 8-0 (i.e. trying to score goals themselves), they play like a team trying to prevent you from scoring 5 goals (i.e. playing keep away all the way back to their own end)

Woo-hoo, I finally beat all of the global challenges last night. The unlocked "world cup" challenges were mostly easy except for the most ridiculous scenario of all: you're Sweden down 4-2 to Brazil in the 81st minute and you need to pull out a win (which equates to about 4 minutes in real-time). What game designer thought this was a good idea? Ridiculous

the game itself is very fun. my only minor gripe is the controls sometimes are suspect ("I passed it forwards and to the left, not backwards dammit!") and the instruction book sucks - so you get to watch the CPU squad do things that you have no idea how to do because the book doesn't tell you how. But solo play (playing in the qualifiers and in the cup) is great and playing online against someone else is fun as well.
The frustration (for me) was doing the global challenge mode because it was so damn hard at times and you can't change settings like clock length or difficulty level in this mode to help you out.
