How much is the warranty? Is there info packed with the 360 to purchase an extended warranty?
I was planning on getting it online but this store doesn't offer a "protection plan" as an add-on like they do with other electronics they sell.

Well, I got my 360 back from MS two days ago and just had to call them again. No red lights this time, but it does freeze and the disc tray DOES NOT OPEN. When I first got it, I noticed that the disc tray was slow. Now it just doesn't work at all. At least my Wii still works......

My brother bought his 360 around March 2006 (around the time Oblivion came out). Last night he got the 3 red lights ring of death. He did not purchase the extended warranty. I guess we'll call MS and probably have to pay $130 for a refurb, which really sucks. I've heard some say that MS will replace launch systems for free, considering how many of them have problems. Although we purchased this not too long after launch, I don't think this would be considered a "launch system". Any suggestions?

Sorry about your luck, been there done that.
...but if you are anyone that reads anything about gaming on the internet, you should know one thing: YOU DON"T BUY A 360 WITHOUT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. Simple as that.

after having my brand new 360 eat a game, and my brother-in-laws brand new 360 lock up all the time, it's starting to hit home about some of these quality issues others are having.
I really wish M$ would be as nice/cool as Nintendo, in that they would send you a brand new system before you even send back your old one.

$400 for a 360 plus, what, $80 for an extended warranty because the things are too damn prone to breaking to not get one?
Fuck that. $400 is already too much for a console in my eyes, much less one with what seem to be clearly the highest failure rate in console history.

I personally think it would be more advantageous to purchase the system at a retailer through one of their protection plans. That way, if/when you have a problem with the console, you're about 30 minutes away from getting a brand new system, as opposed to some refurb that will more than likely give you problems in the future

That could get pricey. I'm on my third system already, meaning I would have already had to buy two warranties at the retailer vs. the one for MS.

point taken, but, did you receive 2 new systems and are currently on your 3rd system?
did you get your initial system repaired, or did they just send you out a refurb a few times?

The first one was a refurb, the second, my current system appeared to be new.

And as pinata kindly pointed out, I don't buy games at $50 (aside from Mario and Zelda titles pretty much).

Hi, I just found out that even users with the elite still have the 3 red lights error. What is going on with Microsoft...
I actually had mine fix a few days ago with the help of a very good tech support site that had a new solution I have never seen before. Here is the page for Xbox Repair you can find solutions for other problems too.
Good luck

Re: Are the 360 system problems still an issue?
I was playing Oblivion last night when suddenly I get this weird glowing green colors showing up in the skies and grounds, so I shut down my 360 and watch movie on my dvd player for a couple of hours. When I turn on my 360 I get the one red ring blinking on the lower right and the system error code E74. *Sigh* look like I going to have to ship it out to MS to get it fixed. Totally bullshit that MS can't get the console built right, I mean I just bought it in March of last year with the Falcon chip thinking that the 360 would last longer with the new chip but I guess I was wrong. Hopefully when I get my 360 back that MS put the newest chip Jasper in this one, but I'm losing faith right now.

I really can't believe the failure rate is so high on these things. It's really a piss poor job by MS. Unfortunately with such strong sales MS isn't likely to do anything about it.

Re: Are the 360 system problems still an issue?
I'm been noticing lots of glitches with GTA IV, but I don't know if its the game or my Falcon 360. I played through this whole game on the supposedly inferior PS3 version and never had issues like this. I will walk into a room and it will be completely blue and finally a few seconds later the textures load. I've crashed into things that didn't have the textures load until after I hit them. It seems like the DVD ROM is killing itself to keep up. I didn't buy a warranty from MS and I won't. This thing craps out and isn't covered by warranty then I'm done. I'm not replacing defective consoles over and over when my Wii and PS3 have been rock solid for over 2 years.

Bought it at Best Buy last January, along with a replacement plan, so I boxed everything up and took it back to BB. They tested it out and let me exchange it for a new unit, so I went with a new Arcade unit with the Jasper chip (bought a 120GB HD a few weeks ago, so I'm good there). Also bought a new replacement plan to go with it. Best part was, they let me have the difference back on a gift card, and that came out to around $135.
I'm actually glad my old 360 crapped out when it did.
