Yep, that link looks like what I was referred to. It doesn't seem to be too hard action-wise, assuming level 50 and the mega blaster and/or minichainsaws, but the time investment is way large.

Michael Corvin 06-11-07 04:00 PM

Not to mention the chance of the 360 giving you a dirty disc error 7 hours in or overheating and dying. That would have been a horrible waste of time.

Not sure if I want to tackle those either.

metalhead212 03-07-08 07:47 AM

I'm bumping this thread because I have a serious problem and need some professional help on this one. I am trying to go through the game to get the saint achievement. Right now I have managed to save every survivor, get every scoop, and close every case right up to the hatchet man in the hardware store. This is the run down on the scenario that I am stuck at.

In a perfect world I would be able to run from the safe room up to the coffee shop to meet my "rival" photographer. Show him the picture he asks for, grab some health and the katana on the over hang. Jump down and take the short cut to the other side of the mall through the bathroom and into the area under construction. Now at this point I should be able to run to the hardware store, defeat the psychopath and grab his hatchet. From there I run next door and get the three survivors in the empty store. Have them join my team and load them up with weapons. From there I run to the bunny statue where the two people are hanging from either side being surrounded by zombies in the wonderland plaza. Once there I should be able to kill all the zombies, knock the people hanging down and force them to the ground and make them join the party. After that I have to run to the large hardware store right after the food court by wonderland plaza and save the guy behind the counter bringing my survivor total to six people following me. Load them up with weapons, run back to the short cut, experience the cult, kill them, save the girl in the box and get the guy out of the little snack shop that is all boarded up right next to where the cult is and get them all home in time to do the next case. . . . In a perfect world.

Since this isn't a perfect world here is what happens. I make it as far as getting the survivors down and MAYBE make it to the hardware store and back to wonderland plaza before the time runs out. Why does time run out? First and foremost I have only fifteen minutes to do all that, which I hear it is possible to do in that short of a time frame, but also the survivors like to either run into a huge crowd of zombies and make it through only to be caught by the one zombie staring at the wall not even facing them or they run into a large crowd and the zombies just start raining down punches like crazy and they die before I can get to them.

I think the issue is the weapons I am choosing to give them, but I am not sure how effective each weapon is. I have on me right now one shot gun fully loaded, my mega man blaster, and the health. I grab the katana on the over hang and pick up a pipe on my way over to get the three survivors next to the shop. I give them the weapons and this is where they get stuck or have dumb ass attacks because in that construction zone they get caught like every other step they take because they want to get right up next to every zombie they meet and slash them. I am thinking I could take a detour to the gun shop and grab another two shot guns, but how effective are the shot guns for the survivors as far as being able to just run and gun through a huge mob? If I want to pull this off I HAVE to beat the psycho path AND get them weapons AND get them out of the construction zone in less than five minutes. What weapons would do the trick?

I was also thinking, what if I leave them in the wonderland plaza once I knock the people off the bunny? Could they stay safe long enough for me to run to the hardware store and get the guy and run just him back to the group? Do they defend themselves when you leave them at a way point or do they go retarded and just the zombies rape them to death? That would save me a lot of time and hassle as I wouldn't have to wrestle six people through the food court even though it isn't as loaded with zombies. PLUS I wouldn't have to deal with them getting hung up in that outdoor mall area where the hardware store is.

Last night I managed to make it as far as getting to the cult, but stupid me, I just had to do a lariat to knock some zombies off a survivor and had my buster equipped which went flying off my hand and BOOM got sleeping powder to the face and it was game over.

If anyone could help me with weapons suggestions or strategy I would very much appreciate it. I did notice last night that if you frequently look back and forth ahead and behind you the survivors don't get caught as often by the zombies. I think if you don't pay attention to them the game makes them get tackled by zombies so that it forces you to slow down and actually guide the survivors. By staying ahead of them but looking back while you are running the game doesn't let your survivors get stuck or mauled very often.

thanks.

I'll pull up a link but I think your problem is the choice of survivors you are trying to save all at once. I have the Saint Achievement and don't recall having that specific group of survivors together.

As for tactics as a whole, after you kill the cult leader you can pick up his brainwash book which makes anyone in your group more agressive when battling. It isn't a huge difference but it helps a little. Second, be sure to not give any of your survivors the shotgun. The blast radius will hit the other survivors lowering their health a lot. Third, there is an Uzi in Paradise Plaza on the awning over the warehouse door. That might be better served than the Katana(don't forget there are a couple of cops with handguns in the fountain by the park exit) Fourth, don't forget you can give them food to replenish their health. Fifth, I'd go with Adam's chainsaws over the mega buster. The MB is good on bosses, but nothing clears a horde of zombies like a chainsaws.

*edit - Here you go, a link to the Saint guide.

metalhead212 03-07-08 09:25 AM

My problem is I was following the same path as a friend did, but somehow he had managed to allot himself 30 minutes to do it all in and not 15. I don't know how it happened because I followed his steps exactly. He was sitting next to me the whole time when I watched him do his. During my fifth or sixth run at it I saw that the survivors were a little better off fighting the zombies with the shotgun, but like you said they were killing each other just as quickly because of the spread.

I will try to experiment I think with how I do things. I think I will try to go from the safe house to the guy with the camera. Get him done, go outside and enter the construction area through the outdoor entrance way. That way I don't accidentally trigger the people hanging off the rabbit. Take those three people back to the safe house via the short cut, battle the cult if I have to. Rescue that girl in the box plus the fat food guy. Take them to the safe room. Run back and get the people hanging and the other guy in the hardware store and HOPEFULLY have enough time to catch the next case.

Do you have to do the cases to get the transmissionary achievement? I'm pretty sure you do :(.

Michael Corvin 03-07-08 09:49 AM

Transmissionary is merely answering every call Otis makes. So yes, you have to do the cases because he calls about them. You also have to save 3 key survivors because he will call in favors for them. However you can miss some if you aren't in the right area at the right time, or in the wrong area at the wrong time. :) For example, if you are in the security room at a time when Otis is supposed to call, he won't make the call and you miss that call altogether and consequently the Achievement. I'd recommend the guides I linked above.

It's still plenty challenging even with a guide.

Centurion 03-07-08 11:45 AM

Wow, this is a great game. I'm getting flashbacks.

You certainly resurrected this thread back from the grave. :rimshot:

I was hoping for some news of a sequel! :(

Last I heard the sequel was being handed off to some capcom subsidiary in the USA. I am not sure whats happening past that as all of a sudden I guess they are being sued by the produce for dawn of the dead?

metalhead212 03-10-08 07:30 AM

Well after trying for seven hours over the weekend to get the saint achievement I gave up. It wasn't going to happen with the time constraints I had. So I tried to get the PP hunter one. I got all the pictures except for the clock tower and now for some reason I can't find the right damn angle for the last picture of the clock tower. I HAVE ONE MORE PICTURE TO TAKE and it won't let me!!

I give up.

Michael Corvin 03-10-08 08:10 AM

There are two or three on the clock tower, right? IIRC, one requires you to be on top of one of the roofs over the picnic tables. As for the Saint achievement, with a guide, it still took be about three tries over the course of a few months.

Actually in the new EGM, Q-man says that while a sequel IS in the works the above rumor is false.

Well dog-gone-it. I want some new information that is true to come out and I WANT IT NOW!

;)

Anyway. I full expected it to take a lot of attempts to complete, but I figured I better just back off a bit before my fondness for the game is tarnished over my attempt at one single achievement.

I think I may try to do the five-seven day survivor stuff, get the sword, and then try because I really don't have the patientce to try to pull the survivors out with basic weapons. I will get the sword and literally just cut a path as I progress for them to walk through and HOPEFULLY they won't get caught as much.

My last run through I cut a path with the mini-chain saw. All they had to do was walk straight through. What do they do instead? Get caught up at the only support pole in that particular area and are swamped by a mob of zombies. I couldn't believe it. One person runs into it, then the next guy, and finally the last guy. So all three of them are stuck running in place trying to push through a ceiling support / wall. I shot them just to watch them die.

matome 03-10-08 10:34 AM

Yeah, it took me a while to get that clock one for some reason as well, even with direct screen shots of where to stand to get them!

Michael Corvin 03-10-08 10:39 AM

I haven't even touched Overtime yet. I've played through probably 8-12 times (who knows at this point?) and am at 900 pts. It's a good game to keep around to chase after achievements though.

Best Achievement system yet.

dvdsteve2000 06-03-08 04:37 PM

Well, I finally decided to blow the dust off this one & shoot for some achievements. In my previous attempt (last year), I made it to Larry The Butcher.

So now, I played through the game, took as many pics as I could, saved who I could, etc... I did manage to beat the game, as well as Overtime Mode. I decided to play through again to try to get some pics that I missed the first time...anyhow, here are a couple questions:

24 hours indoors & outdoors- How do you do this with the scoops ticking down. I couldn't even save the people I wanted to because of the scoops. I read on a cheat site to just climb up on something & wait 2.4 hours, but what about the scoops?

Frank the Pimp-Is it possible to have some survivors gather & wait for you to come back, like in a bathroom? Also, I had 6 women that I was saving. When I got to the rooftop, only one climbed up to the entrance to be saved while the other 5 ran into the wall. I went into the room, saved the one, and before I could go back to the rooftop, all 5 died, and there aren't even any zombies up there.

Sharp Dresser-I have tried on so many outfits & still haven't got this achievement. In my first time through, I tried on every outfit I could find, and this time through I counted 14 changes so far, and I haven't been going out of my way to change clothes (like the first time through)...is this a glitch, or am I being screwed?

Thanks,

~S2K

First off bro, you don't have to save anyone or do any of the missions. You can fail, loose the chance to uncover the mystery, but continue to play within the mall until the end of the third day. Since you have already played a bunch of times it shouldn't matter if you miss some of the story. At that point just stay outside for a day and inside for a day. Get the achievements and then just restart the game again if you want. No big deal. Takes a couple hours and your done.

Frank the pimp is incredibly difficult and frustrating because you can't leave the survivors alone for more than a few minutes or the "zombies" will get them and kill them while they are off screen. You can set a way point for them in the same area as you, as you are taking out zombies, but again if you leave them alone to long the zombies will get them. You pretty much just have to ensure they have weapons and you need to just pace yourself and take your time with it. Took me almost 15 straight hours of loading saves and starting over to get the achievement.

If I miss part of the storyline, all of the 'engaged' boxes turn red & it says something like "You will never know the truth". This just happened to me yesterday on my second time through the game, I think with the Carlito sniper scene.

Also, in my second time through, Cletus was gone from the gun shop, and there were 2 guys & a girl in there, who tore my ass up so bad I literally couldn't move one step. I did take them out (after dying), but where is Cletus?

Cletus appears and disappears at certain times. If you head there at the start of the game, he shouldn't be there. As you saw, he gets replaced by 3 survivors later. You can get them to join you.

For those struggling with the saint achievement, I managed to get it after letting 2 survivors die (the very first guy in the closet and the scared guy in the hardware store) while getting the best ending. It unlocked at the end of overtime mode. I was surprised since I thought the total would be 49 (47 from main game, 2 from OT).

If you are trying to get those two achievements then it is ok that the screen says that. It will give you that message but then a screen pops up that gives you the option to restart or just continue through the game. Anytime you miss a core quest in the story that message will pop up. So you can get all the way through the game, miss the second to last quest, and fail the whole thing. Continue through the game if you want and get the achievements then restart. Having to stay inside or outside that long really screws things up if you are trying to legitimately go through the game. By continuing you are pretty much saying "I don't want to know about the story. I'll just wait for the helicopter and screw around in the mall for a while".

Cletus, I believe, disappears after a while if you don't get to him quickly enough. The two guys and the girl are survivors in the game. To get them to come with you, you have to show them a picture of the air duct you come in and out of to get to the security room. You can only take a few steps into the room or they will start to blow you away. What you have to do is go in the room and let them cycle through their dialog. Once they are done one will come up and you have to show him the picture. If you try to move to them anytime before they join your party they will fuck you up.

dvdsteve2000 06-03-08 06:05 PM

Wow, I never noticed the "continue" message. I thought if you missed a main quest mission you had to reload. Hell, I already got through the main quest...it's time to have some fun!!!!

I blew it with the gun shop gang. I knew something was up when they defected, then said they were dead, lol. I wasn't even going to worry about the gun shop (it was late in the game), but I was running by to meet Isabella anyways.

I'm probably going to run through it one more time. I got up to the Overtime mode in one day, so it should be a cake walk to get what I missed. When I started the 2nd time through, I was level 39 with 11 life & stock, and almost full speed...makes it alot easier.

One last thing...is it possible to get a pic of the helicopter pilot? I didn't see a chance at the beginning, or at noon on day 3.

...and oh yeah, thanks for the help!!

There are actually six or seven different endings for the game. Only two or three of the endings require you to complete all the main quest missions. You can fail the main quest and still get one of the other endings. You just need to complete the main mission "to discover the truth" aka the "real" ending.

Only the "real" ending lets you go on to Overtime mode too.

dvdsteve2000 06-03-08 06:58 PM

I saw in the achievement list that there is a 'true' ending (Infinity Mode), and a 'ture' ending (Unbreakable). I got them both, but I don't remember how I did them. I think you get unbreakable first (to unlock overtime mode), then infinity for completing overtime.

metalhead212 06-04-08 11:48 AM

Steve: Here is how you need to get Frank the Pimp.

Good Luck bro.

I don't think I've ever been as disillusioned with the ending of a game as I am with this one. The final stage of Overtime mode is very annoying.

The final battle in Overtime is cheap as hell. Personally, I always felt that the entire Overtime mode was just tacked on at the last minute. It is basically just one really long fetch quest.
