Even at $40, I'll pass. I think Top Spin 2 is the better deal...but we'll see. I thought a demo was supposed to be up soon....

It looks like fun but I will wait for a demo, because I thought Top Spin would be fun but after playing the demo I am glad I stayed away.

I credit Rock Star for trying something different, but this one is a really weird game idea. Could be a blast online though.

I totally agree it is strange.. ESPECIALLY for Rockstar (from GTA to PING PONG?).. That's why for some reason I think it will be awesome!

I wonder what Jack Thompson thinks of Rockstar's Table Tennis. He seems to hate Rockstar with a passion and thinks that they are trying to corrupt America's youth. I bet he will have a team of crackpots meticulously search for a hidden nude code in the game.

I also think that Jack Thompson was probably the main reason Rockstar is even making this game. They are making him look like a fool when he says all they do is make violent and sexual GTA games.

I thought Top Spin 2 was damn hard, but this may look even harder.

This is on the top of my list of games to get. Not so much because I'm so excited about this game, I just don't know what else to get.

I wonder if there's a nudity code to give this one an M rating months after release.

Doesn't that judge look like the dude from Hitman? Maybe you can access him and a hidden Uzi and start firing up the crowd.

The IGN review is in.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/709/709654p1.html

Summation:

Rockstar has made its point. Table Tennis is a lean, straight-to-the-point game that captures the essence of table tennis exceptionally well. It's a super fun, incredibly addictive, surprisingly focused and smartly designed game that's totally worth $39.99. The actual sport has been handled very well. It's meant to be played with a friend or online. If we just reviewed the actual gameplay mechanics and that's it, this game would have received a higher score. But as a single-player game, it's underwhelming. As a whole package, it's disappointing. There are no extras here. There is no career mode, no mini-games, no doubles games (and we understand why). As a game design it's clearly simple and lean, and while that was the point, you can finish this game in a mere two hours. It's just too short and lean for our tastes.

If you want a table tennis game that's strictly focused on great mechanics and addictive gameplay, but that lacks a reasonable single-player mode and is shockingly spare, Rockstar Presents Table Tennis is your game. For $39.99 and a few good friends around, you'll have a blast.

6.0 Presentation
Spare and with little fanfare. A big change for Rockstar.
8.0 Graphics
Also spare and with little fanfare, but exceptional for what it does. Overall there are excellent mo-cap, animations, and sharp character models.
8.0 Sound
Crackling ping ping sound effects, a wide range of crowd sounds, and a subtle, slick soundtrack. As always, Rockstar delivers good sound.
8.5 Gameplay
Excellent control, precision mechanics, and sharp gameplay. This is where the game shines.
6.0 Lasting Appeal
No features of any kind. The biggest missing feature is a single-player campaign, although the multiplayer modes are skimpy too. Just like everything else, the replay value is spare.
7.8 OVERALL

Fry's will have this for $29.99 tomorrow (Tuesday). It was in Sunday's ad, if you want to pricematch.

No career mode?

I was 100% picking this up today but after reading that I'm 90% picking it up.. Man, I wish we had Fry's around here..

We do have Sam's club but I doubt they'll have it for $30. Man, that is cheap!

Is it just me, or do IGN reviews seem to be all over the place lately?

"It's a super fun, incredibly addictive, surprisingly focused and smartly designed game that's totally worth $39.99."

"But as a single-player game, it's underwhelming. As a whole package, it's disappointing. "

Sounds rushed. I might pick it up for $30, though, if it's in my local ad.

Are you kidding? Jack Thompson will have a field day with this game. I can hear it now...

"Are America's kids that lazy that we are resorting to virtual table tennis now?"

I'll be picking this one up sometime today. I plan on playing this game alot on Live, so the weak single-player aspect of the game doesn't bother me.

Is there System-Link option for the game?

Thanks for the reply. I'm debating on buying 2 copies if it has it since it's only $30 at Frys.

Does it seem like it be a game where the fun fades quickly? Also, is it easy to find a game on live?
