Here are my thoughts after watching these:

Nintendo: They're nuts and I love it, they were so different from the rest, form the way Miyamoto walks on stage and starts conducting an orchestra, to the Wii controller. Because of all the secrecy witht he Wii, this was the conference I was looking forward to the most and it didn't disappoint. Mario Galaxy looks awesome, as does Metroid Prime 3, Red Steel. The controller looks like a ton of fun. The fact that they were able to get an audience member on stage who's never played it in his life and they played a tennis match with Miyamoto, reggie, and iwata was amazing, and it looked like they were having a blast. Plus system is online even if you turn it off? That's awesome for us Animal Crossing players. DS outlook is great as well, Castlevania, yoshi's Island 2 (OMG!), and I just read that Phoenix Write is back too.

Sony: The conference was a lot of chichat compared to the others but there were still some cool things. Metal Gear Solid looked like a must have, I can't wait for it to come out, however I'm going to have to wait until the price of the system comes down before I get it, I just can't justify it, not even for MGS. However Final Fantasy XIII looked great! And the Eyetoy card "augmented reality" system was pretty cool! The montage of future games, while they looked impressive, I really couldn't tell the difference between all the games, seemed like the same one. The "motion sensor" controller however is an embarrassment.

Microsoft: Impressive! More of the same which is not a bad thing for x-box fans but I still don't care for the lineup they had. However unlike last year, there were games this time that I'd like to play like Viva Pinata and Halo, and the XBLA of course. Still, at $400 I'm going to have to wait, especially with the lack of japanese games.

Overall, while Sony and Microsoft had more of the same with better graphics the only "next-generation" conference to me was Nintendo's. In all 3 of the conferences they each mentioned "we're going to make the leap to the next step and be next generation. We try to be new and different." But to me the only system that actually talked the talk was the Wii, its just so different and new, and nothings ever been done like it before. It looks like something you really have to try yourself to truly experience it. I'll own all 3 eventually, but for I can't wait to get a Wii. Good god i think i'm actually getting used to that name too after hearing the conference. Still lots more to E3 so who knows what can happen

Does this mean Phoenix Wright for the DS or the Wii?

To me, Nintendo has won E3. From Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda: TP and PH, Starfox DS, Sonic Wild Fire, DUCK FREAKING HUNT, ExciteTruck, Metroid Prime 3, Yoshi's Island 2, Kirby DS 2, CastleVania DS 2, Super Paper Mario, etc. etc.

Nintendo owns my bank account.

And about those games.... everybody talks about how innovative Nintendo is. Yet, they have continued to rehash the same games for the last 20 years. How many more times can we collect the triforce crystals and obtain the master sword in zelda? How many more times can we beat bowser? How many more sports can Mario play?

You're kidding, right? How many times can you shoot an alien in the ass like in Halo? We've been doing that since... oh, I don't know, Space Invaders or Contra. How about God of War or Heavenly Sword? New coat of paint, same beat em up since Double Dragon and Final Fight.

It's not what you do, it's how you do it. Zelda and Metroid are beloved franchises that bring new and innovative ideas with new iteration. Ideas that are later copied by just about every other game. No one knew how to do 3d right until Mario 64 came out. Ocarina of Time came out and all of a sudden lo and behold we have a bunch of games with Z targeting type control schemes. Nintendo has always been a trailblazer.

Media executives are utterly clueless about the way most people live - relatively few will be willing to drop thousands of dollars just to get a marginally improved movie and gaming experience. It amounts to little more than conspicuous consumption, which will be reflected in the size of the market.

Which is why the Wii will rule the next generation. It looks affordable, exciting, innovative, and, gasp, fun!

The 360 will be the system of choice for traditional next-gen gaming - the exact same thing offered by the PS3, but with a year lead-worth of games and some $300 less expensive after a predictable and deadly price drop made to coincide with its rival's launch.

thats exactly how I feel. I personally have really lost intrest in cosole gaming, but I may just break down and get a Wii

In my humble opinion...

...Nintendo has the most interesting ideas with its Wii system coming late this year.

The reason is simple: they were will to change the way we interact with games using that unusual controller. This could literally set a new paradigm for gaming, to say the least. The next-generation Soul Calibur game would certainly be extremely playable on the Wii, that's to be sure.

When i was a child i played with toy swords fighting imaginary enemies, when i saw the holodeck on Star Trek i fell in love with the idea, and when i first saw and heard about the Wii controller it made me more excited for an activity in gaming in literally years. The very idea i could play Soul Calibur, Zelda, or hell Rock Em Sock Robots by punching and slashing at the screen like i played as a child makes me giddy with the possibilities.

Nintendo completely owned this E3. They had the hardware, and more importantly, they had a bevy of games. And their handheld showing is easily as strong as their console. Aside from the hardware, Sony had next to nothing, and with the $600 announcement, they just priced themselves right out of most people's homes. Microsoft had a Halo 3 trailer and...um...I'll have to get back to you on what else.

This convention might as well have been called Wii3. Nintendo just went from last place to first.

With endless reports of people on the show floor being insanely unimpressed with the Wii (are you guys even reading joystiq?), i have no clue what youre all excited for? Just because its cheap? Most people who've tried metroid said that its insanely difficult to control and you cannot move from your position at ALL when playing. Im actually wondering if the "gameplay" of the tennis we saw on the show floor was fake and done with controllers behind the scene? I guess we wont know till its out.

I was only halfway impressed with Nintendo's Pre-E3 conference, but after reading impressions and seeing all the different games announced, Nintendo took E3 with ease. Probably the easiest victory in the history of the show. And while Sony had a fairly good conference before the show, the lack of playable PS3 games made it the peon of consoles, IMO. It is actually going to be painful to see Kutaragi frown after what I believe to be an ultimate PS3 failure (early on, anyway).

I am being completely unbiased when I say this: I read those 5 and 10 minute impressions on Joystiq and I got worried too(see Wii buying thread).

However, the vast majority of show floor impressions have quickly turned positive, in fact more and more positive as people played the games and got used to the new interface.

As someone else said, its very similar to the DS, having never used it before it appears to be a little hard to come to terms with immediately. However, I feel it will also be similar in that after a short while you can't look back.

But thats just the control, that is just why people became interested. The real reason people are getting excited is the games. There are tons of great games coming for the system, new and old, all being shown and being played. From simply a software standpoint there is a ton to look forward to that offers whole new expereinces, lets hope they are good. Regardless, I don't know who is "Winning" the show, but Nintendo is putting up one hell of a gamers show.

Everything I am reading about Wii is completely positive. Yes, the controller takes a few minutes to adjust to game to game , but after they get it down they seem to have a blast playing the games. This system is the DS all over again and I expect people to enjoy it just as much when they finally take the time to try it.

Of all the fancy next generation stuff shown at E3 its this simple text adventure that is at the top of my list. I'm really thankful that Nintendo has broken from the norm, because there is not much chance the text adventure and point and click adventure genre would survive in the Sony and MS camp.

It is hard to think back because it has been 10 years and everyone is used to it, but there was a significant learning curve with the analog on the N64 and Mario 64. Even now trying to get my wife to try something like Mario Kart is a chore. There is a big learning curve with the sensitivity. I feel the Wii will have that same learning curve, but be easier/faster to figure out, especially for non-gaming people.

BTW, as someone who has longed for Nintendo to return to the top, not just top of the sales chart, but the top of their game. It makes me smile inside with all these posts of desire and affection for the Wii.

I honestly wouldnt hold my breath. After nintendo releases all their first party titles AKA Blowing their load (which is actually everything they have to throw at it, zelda (which wasnt even made with the wii in mind), mario, SSB, etc), whats left? Sequals to the same games? Or perhaps some amazing Mario Sports titles. I read about Final Furlong, that should be a breakthrough title!! Heres a link to describe it.

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/05/10/wi...final-furlong/

Or you could go after Plankton in Spongebob or collect more Pokemon. Oh and that magnificent FF Crystal Chronicles which not even FF fans even remember.. I just need something more then what ive seen to see what the excitement is about. Can someone PLEASE tell me whats so exciting other then the price?

It isn't about the price at all, most of us figured it would be cheap anyway. No big surprise there. It is all about the innovation and possibilities. What you see is old franchises with a new coat of paint, what I see is a whole new gaming world where the possibilities are almost endless. The exact opposite of the other two systems(same shit, new paint-literally).The first party titles will get the system off the ground, along with the VC content, but once people get acclimated with the controller the third party franchises and new IPs will carry the torch.

It also comes back to how excited the developers are for the system. It translates into the games, which translates into how much fun people seem to be having with limited time with it at the show, which then transfers into the consumer. It's just exciting.

I know its becoming cliche, but "people said the exact same thing about the DS". Nintendo invented new IP, changed gameplay elements, the DS is going strong as heck right now.

Considering it takes "1/3" the effort and budget to make a Wii game simply because the standard resolution, it will be easier for Nintendo and 3rd parties to publish games quicker with lower costs exactly as we have seen on the DS.
