Call of Duty 2 on 360: no split screen Live?

My girlfriend and I have a 360. She went out and bought a copy of COD2. I played through a bunch of the single player missions yesterday while she was out, then when she came home we spent a long time trying to figure out whether the two of us could play split screen on Live with some friends, as we do with Halo 2. Couldn't seem to get it going. Did they really drop the ball on this? Seems like a major step backwards. We've shelled out 400 for the console, 60 for the game, maybe 70 for the extra controller and headset, and I'm paying for 2 separate Live subscriptions. Is all of that wasted on COD2? If so, it's gonna be hard to justify popping it into the drive when Halo 2 is sitting there beckoning. Damn.

I just asked this question a week ago today in this thread.

Unfortunately the answer is not good!
