I actually just started noticing this a little bit ago, but it may have been that way all along & I never noticed... The center of the screen is normal, but as you get to the sides, the screen 'expands' like a fisheye lens would. The wording in the center looks great, but larger/wider towards the sides. I have my XBOX set to widescreen, and permitting all settings (480i/720p/1080i). I also tried setting the screen to 'normal', but I get the same results. Am I missing something, is it supposed to be this way, or is it a TV setting that I'm missing?



Any suggestions? Does anyone else have this problem, or isn't it a problem (supposed to be that way)?

What kind of TV do you have? Widescreen? What settings do you have your TV on? Most WS TV's have settings like stretch or something like that.

What is your TV set on?

Is it on "Smart Stretch" or "Smart Zoom"?

I have a 61" widescreen. Check this out though... I have my TV set to 16:9. I tried changing it to 4:3 to see if it made a difference, of course I ended up with the side bars. When I switched it back to 16:9, the screen looks fine now (no more fisheye). Maybe it just needed to 'reset' itself or something. I changed some settings around a while back & I think that's when all this started.

Just checking...should the correct settings be:
TV: 16:9
XBOX: Widescreen, enable all settings (480i/720p/1080i)

I have STRETCH set through my cablebox settings, but I keep my TV on 16:9. Should I have them set differently?

I think each input on your TV should have a different setting. Each company handles it differently. Some have a NORMAL, STRETCH, ZOOM, 4:3. Some TV's use stretch to keep the middle of the picture normal, but it stretches out the sides to fill the screen. I just leave mine on Normal. I don't mind watching SD TV in Widescreen....

This may sound stupid but don't forget to make sure the switch on the component video cable running from Xbox to the TV is set to HD and not TV. When I first got mine I just plugged it all in and didn't even notice the little switch until I started playing COD2 and realized it didn't look too great.

This is a regular XBOX, not a 360, so (to my knowledge) there isn't a switch on the HD box/cables.

Hmm... I don't think all games that run in HD are 16:9... so these "fisheye" games may just be 4:3, and you're stretching them to make them fit your screen. You should put the black bars on the side to get the proper view. All 360 games are mandated to be 16:9 in HD.
