Extracting sound files from PC games?
Is there any way to pull music from PC games and make them MP3's? In particular I would love to have the music from Thief 1 and 2 and maybe from an older game, Drowned God.
I'm looking at the files and they are alien to me. Do you have to use some type of sound recording thing?

Best place to ask is a forum dedicated to a specific game, Eidos for example has a Thief Forum. There's a program called Nova Extractor I have seen talked about that works with some games, but I've never tried it and the web site is not in English.

It really depends on the game. Some games, like Half-Life, are already a soundtrack CD. Other games, like Unreal, require you to launch a game editor to extract the files and convert them to something useful. Still, other games like Diablo, use a whole other type of audio file.
As you can tell, I haven't been a PC gamer in the last six years, so I can't give you specifics. José's advice seems spot on.

It really just depends on whether the file format is proprietary or not. Unless someone has made an application to extract it for that specific game.
