No. No companies offer this.

You can update your new DS with your exsisting code wirelessly.

Nintendo ramps up DS Lite production to meet high demand
Ellie Gibson 09:28 28/03/2006

700,000 units expected for April

As the Nintendo DS Lite continues to prove hugely popular with Japanese consumers, Nintendo has announced plans to step up production of the redesigned handheld.

According to the company's official website, partially translated by GameSpot, a total of 550,000 DS Lite units will be produced in March - up from the figure of 450,000 which was previously suggested. In April production will increase even further, with 700,000 units expected.

Demand for the DS Lite has been extremely high since the handheld launched in Japan on March 2nd. Last week Nintendo president Satoru Iwata admitted that there were supply issues but said Nintendo was doing its best to resolve them, stating: "I'm hopeful in the latter half of April we can get rid of the terrible, terrible shortage situation that we are facing with the Nintendo DS right now."

There's still no word on a European release date for the DS Lite. Last month online reports suggested the handheld will launch here on August 16th - but retail sources said the release date could be earlier than that.

I know this is referencing Japan, but I hope they will have enough for the U.S. when it debuts in May. I would like to finally get on sometime in early summer.

After seeing the Zelda vid, and now the DS comparison vid above, I'm sold on the DS Lite. Now...

August?

I just read in EGM that it was due in May. I was hoping to take it on vacation. I guess that isn't happening.

I think gamesindustry.biz is a UK site, so the "here on August 16th" should be referencing Europe. I think May is still on for US.

Not to be pessimistic, but I don't see how they could launch here in May, considering the shortages still going on in Japan, and the fact that they are still selling for over MSRP.

Dunno. I was just pointing out that "here" meant UK. I tend to agree with you regarding supply, but they haven't officially said it won't be May yet.

No one has officially said May yet, either, have they? I thought that was all just rumors assuming it would launch with the new Mario.

I think you're right, nothing official that I recall. However, if gi.biz is sure it'll be there in mid-August, I'd say sometime between now and then is a pretty solid guess. E3 is as good a time as any to launch that here in the States. Doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility. Wasn't there only like 5 or 6 weeks between announcing and releasing in Japan anyway? Anything's fair game. Nintendo's a disruptor, remember?

Just saw this too. http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802265

EB Games has a place-holder May date for a DS Lite bundle with New SMB.

I know the NSMB date is now 5/15, but wouldn't it be a kick in the teeth if they released a pack-in bundle on 5/7 (the original NSMB date).

Amazing, Japan won't buy a single Xbox 360 but we lap up what basically is a portable Nintendo 64 that has been out for over a year.
Not to thread crap because I probably will buy one.

Rightfully so, as Mario (currently) launches on a Sunday, which is the day of the week Nintendo has ALWAYS released hardware. I'm not saying it's a definitive, but it's a pretty good hint. I don't think they've released any games on Sunday for a long time (if at all?).

I understand your point, but the DS is anything but a portable N64...

Well that makes one of us.

We buy DSs because they are innovative and fun...they don't buy x-boxes for the same reason (except the opposite).

Country of origin has very little to do with any of it.

I was refering to the point I infered. Simply that: It's amazing a resdesign of the DS is selling so well compared to the also exciting xbox 360.

Yeah, I am definitely going to upgrade. Maybe I can find some cheap used copies of Peach and Tetris between now and then.

Yeah, I figured...

dude just made it sound like the japanese were obligated to buy 360s despite the fact that they are not remotely interested in anything the 360 has to offer...as a matter of fair trade or something.

Yeah! Can't wait!

Thats actually got something in common with the SMB parody in Paper Mario: TYD in which you control Bowser, and you can be Super Huge Bowser
Can I have a two player game with that if I have a US DS Lite (looks like I may have to import one?) and someone else has a UK DS/DS Lite? Or must the DSes be from the same terratry for 2 player games?
