From the Gamespot article:
Huh? It's been a while since I've played through SA, but the only time I can even remotely remember a rape being alluded to was between Catalina and CJ, and CJ was on the receiving end (although he didn't seem to mind all that much).
Still, I'm always fascinated by how, out of all the horrible things you can do in the GTA games, the ability to have sex with a hooker, then kill her afterwards is always mentioned as the worst thing possible. Somebody should mention to the critics that the game never forces you to do that to progress, it's entirely up to the player if they want to do that sequence of actions or not.
In the games, players can solicit "services" from prostitutes by driving their cars slowly near them. No sexual acts are in clear visible view, but during the "transaction," the player regains health and loses money. Though the player cannot actively rape prostitutes in the game, a possible rape is alluded to once during the storyline of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. The prostitutes, like every other character, are also subject to homicide at the hands of the protagonist.

This reminds me of the Native American group that wants to boycott the wild west game, Gun. They claim that the game is racist towards Native Americans. Link here: http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/g...ml?sid=6143508
At this rate, why don't we just ban all games/movies? Every game/movie is going to offend someone.
I never cared for GTA or other "gangsta" games either. Playing as a "gangsta" just never appealed to me.

The gangsta idea wasn't appealing to me either, but I eventually played GTA3...and was shocked.
The way they allow you to *inhabit* that world is unlike any other game and is not in any way overrated. Your experience is entirely up to you and is done at whatever pace you're inclined.
Top ten game experience of all time...easily. The follow ons were prettier and more complex, but the original GTA3 will always be a memorable experience for me.

I have to wonder how the people that want the game off the shelves feel about this. On the one hand, I suppose they appreciate the support, but then, they probably don't want to be associated with prostitutes. It reminds me of when the Klan supported Augusta's all-male membership, though not as extreme.
