Can we please keep this thread on topic? I am still trying to find a 360 and use this threads for head up on how to get one. Why does it need to be a 360 vs Ps3 debate?

Check your local Best Buy stores :D!

peon73 03-03-06 10:03 PM

well check craigslist. i broke down today and got new premium in sealed box for $450.

s}{ammer 03-03-06 10:29 PM

RVP, have you checked your local kmart? I'm telling you, the local walmart never has them, probably because they are so busy that as soon as they get them in people snatch them up, whereas kmart is usually pretty dead in the electronics area since their prices are never very special.

K&AJones 03-04-06 12:55 AM

I think this has been talked about and is pretty well known why there's a shortage and not an abundt supply of 360's.

Do a Yahoo or Google on "360 Chip Shortage" and you'll see why.

Supply will meet demand one day, and then people will be able to walk into the store and pick one up. It has to happen so it isn't a matter of if. As for the people who give up/gave up, what are the alternatives? If they want to play there is only one next gen system now and it looks like Sony may not be in the game for some time. The head start, a years worth of good titles and xbox live all make for some good reasons to not drop your money on a PS3 when it comes out with a bunch of games that were already out on 360 and the few exclusives available at launch.
I had to comment on this. I recently walked into a best buy and they had plenty of systems in stock. Both premium and core. If i had that opportunity in november/december, there would have been **0** doubt id have purchased one on the spot. But now that the hype was over and i saw available units, i truely lost intrest in the system and decided to wait for the ps3. It was definetly a failed launch IMO as people who actually had cash in hand to purchase a unit werent able to. That is just bad buisness sence. If they were available, id be a Xbox 360 owner right now, but it is not the case, sadly.

That is how most recent console launches have gone. It was the same way for the PS2 and it will be the same way for the PS3. Don't fool yourself into thinking otherwise

 By your measure, the PS2 launch was a failure also. Enjoy your wait for the PS3.

s}{ammer 03-04-06 09:16 AM

JM, I have to agree with you. Anyone who says, "I would be an xbox owner right now but I am going to wait for the ps3..." is basically saying that they are going to miss out on a lot of great next-gen gaming right now and for the next few months. If any of you guys think Sony is going to be able to get all the specs for BD done and get enough units to launch in the US and Japan this spring then I really need what you are smoking. By the time the PS3 does launch here there will be so many games for the 360 that are not launch titles and have great quality that it will be the system to have for sometime. Not to mention, buying a 360 now for $300 or $400, or buying the PS3 with no HDD for $400-700 when it is finally released. Not to mention, xbox live and the xbox live arcade are proven services that are here now and work great. Who knows how the new Sony network is going to work and if it will be any better than the way they do it now on PS2 and PSP. I really hope they get a great network going because I love my PSP and my biggest complaint is finding people online for a good game of poker. If only they had the rep system like live then I wouldn't be playing against some ass who is going all in every hand. Anyway, back on topic, I can't wait for the PS3 to launch so we can get some better competition on the next-gen gaming prices and I might end up with one when they drop below $200 if that happens in the next 5 years ;). Anyone who wants to wait for a system that they don't know how much it will be, when it will be released and even how well it will be received must be more a Sony fan than a gaming fan. I can tell you right now, there is no way Sony will be able to meet demand for their console this time around with the short window they gave themselves, well unless they price it at $700 but they wouldn't do that to all those loyal Sony Playstation fans who waited for them would they?My loyalty is to my wallet and my fun. I am enjoying the 360 right now even though I didn't think I would even buy a next-gen system until next year sometime.

RVP 03-05-06 09:44 PM

I picked up a Premium at my local Curcuit City today, I got the last one. They got about 12 in this morning and i got the last one at about noon.

According to an article in Variety and copied & pasted here , the PS3 is being delayed until the fall in Japan. Now that means that there will possibly be a simultaneous worldwide launch and we saw how well that worked for XBox 360 (more demand than supply), or they will wait until the spring of 2007 to release the PS3 here in the States.

If there are games that are on the XBox 360 now that you really want to play, then you might want to reconsider your decision. For me, XBox Live Arcade has been the best thing about the XBox 360, so far.

So if the article in Variety is to be believed, then the chances of getting a PS3 at launch will be even harder than the XBox 360, because you know that the PS3 will sell out in Japan on release day and probably all over the world, for that matter.

Good luck with your decision, Chris

I'm no longer buying any XBLA titles until Microsoft decides to actually start providing support. There are some significant and annoying bugs in some of the XBLA titles (I've experienced these firsthand with Bejeweled2) and Microsoft is neither acknowledging the problems nor offering any remedies (such as crediting a portion of the purchase price, freebies, etc.)

Because XBLA purchases are electronic only, there's no way to "resell" it or give it away (as would be the case in a traditional game distribution) if the bugs are too annoying.

What kind of bugs are you seeing? While I don't have bejeweled, I haven't experienced any bugs in the Live Arcade (thankfully). What other titles are you seeing bugs in?

I can only speak firsthand about Bejeweled 2. Endless mode has a bad habit of reseting back to level 1, making one of the achievements near impossible to attain. There's also graphical residue on the leaderboards if you played the demo before purchasing, making it near impossible to read the leaderboards. The latest is an impossible situation... "no more moves" in Endless mode. The official XBox forums have people reporting bugs in other XBLA titles.

There's several:

Multiplayer support for Gauntlet and Joust is a bit spotty - creating or joining a game can sometimes be difficult to do. These are minor errors.

In Marble Blast Ultra, the leaderboards cannot be filtered by friends unless you add or remove several people in your friends list. This is a pretty major error and still has not been fixed.

In Outpost Kaloki X, there are some achievements which are impossible to get. The game is simply glitched.

In Zuma, leaderboards have members with impossible scores in the billions and beyond. This is a game error or exploit and has not been fixed.

<s>In Smash TV, you cannot play online. The game will often randomly reset you.</s> (This happens when both players die)

All of the above I have seen first-hand.

There are also been a reported problem with Mutant Storm Reloaded (an invincibility bug) but I have not been able to see it or replicate it first-hand.

These are the ones I know of. Except for Smash TV, none of them really affect gameplay, but they do affect the overall experience to some extent. None of these "break" a game. In fact, even if none of the "extra" features worked, you'd still have the same type of game you'd have on a PC or non-360 console and it would work just as well.

For $5, I'm going to be realistic and not complain a whole lot since this only affects any of my bragging rights, not actual gameplay. The biggest slap in the face so far has been PD0 and CoD2's online play. I would not mind getting a refund for Smash TV.

scarab007 03-06-06 01:21 PM

I know Best Buy has been getting these more often, but what are the estimates for Amazon to start getting some in stock? Historically have they been much further behind?

So you were interested in the 360 back when you perceived everyone else wanted one, but now that you don't perceive a lot of other people wanting one, you don't want one? I don't mean to attack but this is how the post comes across.

And for everyone else: local Gamestops around here are taking pre-orders for guaranteed April 1st delivery of premium 360s. (Yes, that's an unfortunate choice for a date).

Crazy, thanks for the list. I haven't seen much about these glitches, but then again I don't tred into the Xbox.com forums very often.

I'd say I'm in the same boat as the other poster, but it has little to do with a perception of what other people want. For me, I took the money I'd set aside for a 360 and put it towards a 30" HDTV. Buying a 360 would be a bit more of a stretch financially now than it would've been in December, so I'm planning on waiting until solid info on the PS3 has been released to decide what I'm going to get. I doubt I'm that much of a minority. I bet a lot of people had money set aside for the 360 and, when they couldn't get one, ended up spending it on something else.

That is not a bad deal. Only about 18 bucks when you figure in the tax.

Went into another Best Buy today, nothing. Where do some of you live where there's mountains of 360's just waiting to be purchased? :)

I dont care about what everyone else does, i wanted one due to the hype out there and the games looked intresting. Once i couldnt get one, i then started playing the games, reading reviews and all the issues people are having and STILL not being able to get one, i lost intrest. The games were a huge part of me losing intrest, nothing that really blew me away at all, especially when most are available on a ps2/xbox already.

By the time the system was in stock when i walked into a store, the intrest was very depleted. I looked back at my xbox and my ps2, and i realised this could be another situation where i would hardly find anything unique id like to play on the 360 then the ps3, which was the case for ps2/xbox. I hate FPS games and that is a major draw to the xbox, not to me tho. I truely want to be proven wrong, but it just isnt looking that way. Maybe once its down to 200 and there is some compelling games =)

From my understanding Costco keeps getting them in fairly large quantity. Have any near you?

Show Low, AZ up in the White Mountains. I wouldn't say we have mountains of them, but the local kmart always seems to have at least a core system. Have you thought about having one of the dvdtalkers pick one up for you and ship it? It would cost you a little more because of shipping, but think of how much time you would save and you would have your 360. :)

I have 1 near me. I'll check it out sometime.

slop101 03-07-06 10:16 AM

Yeah, if I had found a 360 back in Nov./Dec./Jan. I would've bought one. But now that I owe a bunch of taxes (federal/state/property), it would be irresponsible of me to buy one now, if at all.

scarab007 03-08-06 01:58 PM

Trying to find an 360 has reached 666 posts. Well, 667 now, but noentheless... it let's you know what you the cost to get one and what those who have one have already given up.... muahaha

Speaking of which, does anyone know how long Amazon.com usually lags behind from the other major retailers in getting these things in stock?

Danke!

Draven 03-08-06 02:57 PM

One Best Buy near me has gotten them in in the last 3 weeks, and they were sold out by the time I left work for the day.

I think I'm giving up.

If you're like me and plan to get all three consoles, I think the perfect time to get one will be when the ps3 comes out. First, it will be impossible to get one of those. Secondly, there will be pretty good titles out like the new Splinter Cell and Halo 3.

DJariya 03-08-06 07:25 PM

I live in Southern California and it's 99.9% impossible to find one here. Circuit City posted in their Sunday ad that they received some units. But low and behold, they were all gone about 30 minutes after opening up at one near my house. I wonder why Microsoft isn't just tripling and quadrupling production? They should set up more plants in China, Malaysia, Indonesia to get these damn things built!

Or do you think it's best to wait maybe 1 year or so and see if the bugs are worked out from these priliminary units?

I actually already have a regular Xbox and am pretty satisfied with my gaming on it. Microsoft isn't really giving me much encouragement that I will be able to get one of the 360's anytime in the near future.

nonametofame 03-09-06 02:48 AM

I saw probably about a dozen premium xbox's today at the Best Buy in Westminster, CA while I was there picking up GR:AW. They were all there sitting in the cage. It definitely gave me the impression that these are now plentiful. Might be worth a drive for some of you Socal folks.

s}{ammer 03-09-06 10:15 AM

It's only a matter of time now before every store starts getting them in. Isn't March the month that the new systems coming from the new manufacturer are due?

Draven 03-09-06 11:30 AM

Circuit City just had some Premiums show up on their site, but when I tried to add one to my cart they were "experiencing technical difficulty." Ah well.

And the Best Buy store finder STILL shows no 360s in stock anywhere, including the store that is half a mile from their corporate headquarters.

Japan. ;)

I got one at Target a few weeks ago.

BeanDip0001 03-10-06 03:00 AM

hey circuitcity.com had just the console for 399 and a core bundle, checkout worked just fine.

gimmepilotwings 03-10-06 12:27 PM

it says that they are available, but the site also shows out of stock.

Mr. Cinema 03-11-06 05:56 PM

Ebgames.com has 4 different bundles that will be available next week. For those still looking...

Also, the xbox360 tracker site shows Circuit City having them in as well:

http://xbox360tracker.com/

scarab007 03-12-06 12:55 AM

Circuit City has some error going on with their website for the premium. The stock they had is sold out but the website is still showing it in stock. You get to go through everything where it is about to say 'your order is processed' and then bam, sorry for the error. Pisser :(

edit: they did have cores as of late last night

Mr. Cinema 03-13-06 02:10 PM

Kmart.com has the core in stock.
