Video Game draft - Final Four!
 

Welcome to round two of the Video Game Draft Tournament! 16 DVDTalkers drafted 10 console or portable video games. Now it is up you, the fine gamers of DVDTalk, to vote on which player has drafted the best collection.

Players have been randomly paired up by means of a random number generator and by random number generator I mean asking someone to pick a number 1-3 to match up with the winner of pair 4. To vote reply to this post telling me who you think has the best lineup. Your vote will not count unless you vote on every pair! Your vote will not count if you edit the post where you vote!

Players in the game are encouraged to vote. Optionally, they are also allowed to post to this thread telling everybody why they think you should vote for their collection.

So, let the voting begin! Voting ends on Wednesday, November 16th, at the exact time of the timestamp of this post. Match-ups will be listed in the first reply to this post.

No offense to these final competitors, but when i look at some of the games in the remaining collections, I am baffled as to how i lost in the first fucking round of this thing.

cleaver - swap out OOT for anything on ryuryu2949's list and this would've been pretty much a dead heat
msdmoney - I've only played 2 games on DJ's list, so msdmoney gets my vote pretty much by default

When I get knocked out in almost any draft it boggles my mind that the majority didn't like, for example, the Simpsons over Arrested Development, Cheers over Prison Break (that one really fucked with my head), Van Morrison over James, Rushmore over Life Aquatic, but hey, different strokes for different folks.

2 GAMES ONLY! That is quite puzzling, Burnout, Mike Typson and Halo2 and MUSTS for anyone. Streets of Rage? Mario Kart....I can see the Sega CD games getting passed over....great little system (for about a minute). GTA for PSP is also a half-assed pick too...but the rest. Mutant League sports were GREAT.

I owned Punch Out and Mario Kart back in the day. I haven't owned a PSP, XBox or any Sega systems, which knocks out a good chunk of your games. Not saying they aren't great games, I just haven't played them. On the other hand, I've owned every Nintendo and Sony console, so I'm more likely to vote for lists containing great games on these systems.

Though it pains me as we had a lot of fun with Mutant League Football & Hockey back in the day. Those and General Chaos were great party Genesis games.

ryuryu has Goldeneye which is the greatest multplayer game in the history of gaming and has NHL 94 for the Sega Genesis... NHL 94!!!!!

- First, let us look at which games matchup. We both have GTA games--while San Andreas is a bigger game, Vice City just is more fun and was more revolutionary. And you gotta love the 80s style Miami Vice theme. So at worst that is a push, and likely leans in favor of me.

- Next, Tekken 5 is just a better game than Soul Calibur 2. Tekken 5 was ranked a 9.2 on gamespot; Soul Calibur 2 only got a 8.5. Besides, Tekken 5 really advances the series, while Soul Calibur was definitely a step down from the original.

- As for puzzle games, although I love Super Puzzle Fighter, how can you top Tetris? I think I have the edge there.

- I have never played God of War, Herzog Zwei, or Forza Motorsport (haven't even heard of that last one), so I won't really comment.

- Ok, so where the heck are Cleaver's sports games? Geez, sports games are such an important genre. I guess he just couldn't leave off that second Zelda game...

- Also missing from Cleaver's list is a great multiplayer game. I have two: Goldeneye and TMNT 4.

- Where Cleaver does have me beat is in RPGs. Phantasy Star is a great game and a pioneer in the genre, but I cannot deny FFIII (or the brilliance of Zelda if you count that as an RPG). But that really is the only category that he has an edge on me.

So why is he winning by so many votes??? Please tell me it is not because everyone is hating on the SMS!?!

Herzog Zwei and Super Puzzle Fighter are my favorite multiplayer games ever.

I know this is true for Puzzle Fighter, and I suspect it is true for Herzog, but neither game supports more than 2 people playing at a time. You could play with 4 people for both Goldeneye and TMNT. Multiplayer = at least 3 people.

Well, I look at just about every game on Cleaver's list and I nod my head. You list leaves a bit to be desired IMO. No real RPG, The sports games that you chose, I think that you reached for and could have drafted them later. SC2 was better than Tekken 5. Soul Caliber 1 was so good, they needed a miracle to top it.

As for the SMS, I'd say less than 5% of the people here had one, so they never played the games. I didn't own one, but I played Wonder boy. It is almost like Cleaver got extra picks because of these games that most people didn't own.

Oh no you didn't just say that about Phantasy Star........

When this is done, I'd love to hear some reasonings. I'm still a little shocked I exited after the first round.

Let's compare, ala ryuryu style.

We both had a Final Fantasy game. So its II vs VII. Both were important in the RPG history of the series, but I have to believe that VII weighs more as it bought a lot more new blood into playing the games. If VII hadn't been as big of a success, I think the FF series would have suffered more and who knows what direction it might have taken, if it continued long. Advantage - Me

We both had a puzzle game, albeit a different type. Tetris vs Chu Chu Rocket. While I can't deny the fun Chu Chu rocket brings, Tetris was huge. As someone else said, its repetitive and boring after a while. But huge none the less. Advantage - Rainmaker

I've never played or heard of RC Pro Am, Actraiser - SNES, Radiant Silvergun - Sega Saturn. If I had to guess, I'd say that RC is a racing type game. The other two being action types or possibley RPG?

My list had Secret of Mana which I think tops Phantasy Star.

I also had Metroid and Pitfall, two classic gems.

Where I did think my list was a little lacking, Socom, Fable and Jade Empire. I thought my list was stronger due to casual familiarity. I suffered because I read people voting against me because I had new gen consoles on my list and they didn't play any new gen games :hscratch: I think everyone had at least one new gen game. And then one person voting againt me based on a hatred of one game, FF VII.

Debating gets you no where....I tried to reason this round, and got nothing.
I still cannot see why I'm losing this round.

I should have been more specific. I played and enjoyed PSO for the dreamcast. However, when I said no RPG's, what I should have said was no RPG's that the majority of people have played.
