I picked this up today. It really is a great mix of all the Mario Karts combined into one package, complete with online play. So far my neighbors "hotspots" don't seem to like my DS connecting to them so I'm just going to get my own. Well I am buying a wireless router tomorrow (been putting it off forever), so maybe I'll post my friend code soon :).

7 times out of 8. That's how many times the game chose against me on the level selection in 1-on-1 matches. The one time it picked my level was the one time I picked Random out of frustration. I just wanted to play Rainbow Road. :(

Well me and huh? are trying to play online now and it keeps disconnecting. It keeps telling me my opponent disconnected, but I don't think he is, I thinks it's Nintendo's servers messing up. Hopefully he'll post here and we can get both sides of this and figure out what's going on.

ARGH!!! I can't seem to get the wifi to connect through my wireless - it's recognizing the signal and I got the WEP code in there and everything, but I keep getting a useless error code. And the wifi website is no help...

I think it may have been a problem on my end. I mentioned earlier in this thread I was using a WiFi card with some GigaByte softAP software, which automatically installs it's own drivers on your system. I noticed I was getting a small percentage of errors on the wifi stats page but it was such a small number (and didn't seem to effect gameplay) I figured it was just normal wifi behavior, since I've never used a wifi network before. After our game dropping out tonight I tried manually un-installing the GigaByte drivers and re-installing the original manufacturer's drivers for my card and viola...no more errors. Hopefully that was the problem and now it's fixed. |
It kept telling me my opponent was disconnecting. Weird.

Same here. I was able to play regional and worldwide games until my battery ran out (3rd time i've done that... DOH) |
Finally picked up Mario Kart.

WOW, I managed to play a 4-player game where nobody dropped earlier today!
|
Just a small update: all my Wifi problems have been solved. The culprit: Vonage (VoIP telephone). It kept crashing so I took it completely out of my network and now every thing's great. Played for several hours online without any dropouts. People were actually decent last night too and didn't quit mid-race or anything. Until I can figure out a better solution I'm just going to have to take my phone offline whenever I want to play. Anybody else here have Vonage? I'm curious if anybody else had problems or might know of a solution.

I can get on and get racing but I only get through 2-3 races before my DS locks up and says I'd been disconnected. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

My online experience has gotten better as well. played about 4 games in a row with at least 3 people in them with no dropouts.

Over the holidays, we should try to get a tournemant going! Like Thursday @10pm or something. What do you guys think?
|
I'm game. Hell, even general window of time to meet up online for drop-free racing would be fun.
|
I'm game too I think. I haven't gone online with Mario Kart yet so that'll be the first time. I was busy designing my emblem.

This game is great! Here's my friend code.

I believe this game will be $28 at BB on 11/25/05 during that black friday sale thing.

Well I've got somewhat good news about players who drop out of a race. It does count against them, but only if at least two of the remaining players finish the rest of the 4 race set. The only thing that matters is the final point totals at the end of the set. You get one WINS point for each player you beat and one LOSSES point for each player who beat you, so a 4 player race scores like this:
1st place = 3 WINS, 0 LOSSES 2nd place = 2 WINS, 1 LOSSES 3rd place = 1 WINS, 2 LOSSES 4th place = 0 WINS, 3 LOSSES So if someone drops out, the best thing you can do is finish the set so the guy gets his 3 LOSSES. If the set isn't finished nobody gets any points, so in 2 player races you're still vulnerable to jerks dropping out. |
I haven't had too many people dropping out lately and have finished the last few with at least three people still in. My problem is still finding friends at the same time they are looking. Its been very rare to matchup with anyone besides calling them and setting it up exactly at the right time and even then it hasn't always worked. Random racing is also getting old because they keep matching me up with all these people with 50-100 more wins than me so I get slaughtered. People have apparently figured out that drifting is the key and will do that until it gets nauseating. I have seen bit of two people working together to drift each other into a huge lead so they always get at least second place and lots of people staying behind you almost the whole race so they can take you out at the end. That one sucks when there are only two of you racing.
Nintendo has really done nothing at all to live up to the promise of better online gaming. Mario Kart is neat and its free to play online, but they haven't eliminated any of the promised frustrating things that Xbox Live suffers from and in many ways I'm finding it worse. I have gotten pretty far on the single player and am currently finishing the mirror tracks. I still think Mario Kart is a good game, but man it got old in a hurry. I played Mario Kart 64 for months without getting tired of it (that and GoldenEye on the 64 are still my idea of what multiplayer gaming should be) and this one got old in a matter of days. I'm ready to trade it in and move on to the online game I really want to play, Animal Crossing. |
I finished this game. The first one I have finished since Castlevania DS. Actually the funny thing is that those two DS games are the only ones I have taken the time to beat in ages. It didnt take me long at all to get through this game.
Since many of the levels are from past Maro kart games, I already knew how to get threw them natually. Hard to explain. But, it all came back to me when I saw them again. I just have a question? I unlocked R.O.B. the Robot. Where is he from? I dont remember him. But, I agree. I will be trading this one in for Mario & Luigi DS this week. |
