Demo XBOX 360 at Best Buy

Did a search and didn't see that anyone else had posted this. At May BB in OKC xbox 360 is set up with call of duty. Played it yesterday for a while. Has anyone else seen these demos set up?

Groucho 11-11-05 12:54 PM

I saw one of these up yesterday. I didn't really play it, as a kid came up while I was looking, so I deferred to him.

Leedguitar 11-11-05 01:04 PM

Yep, it has been on display at the Best Buy #401 in Southgate, Mi since early this week or late last week.

Was at a Wal-Mart last night and they had a 360 setup with a demo disc.

Very sweet looking system and graphics.

Best Buy in Boston (landmark) has a 360 hooked up to a 50 inch LG plasma. The game was King Kong when I was there. I played for a few minutes and couldn't get into the game, but the graphics were amazing.

Woah! not all the kiosks are using the Samsung TVs?

I played a little COD2 at the Best Buy up by 494 and 35W here in the Cities the other day.

Graphics seemed pretty cool, otherwise just your typical WWII shooter. Fun to play though.

RyoHazuki 11-11-05 04:23 PM

I played one at BB and Wal-Mart and I'm really not impressed that much. Call of Duty 2 looks like a high end pc game and demos tend to stress the coolest parts of the game. I hope the other games are a step up from that.

Groucho 11-11-05 04:43 PM

A good percentage of the titles for Xbox 360 are indeed PC games, including Call of Duty 2.

SHEESH what a freakin waste! I dont know *why* im even bothering with the Xbox360! All it is is a high end PC with a specialized online network. I cant believe M$ is duping everyone into a simple PC they could get for a thousand more dollars at any store.

We've had ours up since the middle of October and customers love it. The graphics look amazing, considering that the thing is hooked up with composite cables and it's a demo.

Went to Best Buy to check out the 360 today as a matter of fact. While there's no one title that makes me excited( KOTR, Splinter Cell, Grand Theft Auto), I was impressed enough with the graphics, controls, and interface to easily excite me enought to must have the xbox 360 on launch day. I was really impressed with how the King Kong game had no health bars and huds visible. It made it more of a theatrical experience not to mention the cluttered look that huds give and the worry of burn in that some of us have. The next gen is here baby and I'm ready for it!!!!

schmedy 11-11-05 07:46 PM

FYE and EB Games in University Mall in Burlington VT both have one.

I geeked out when I saw that the BB in N. Hollywood a 360 kiosk running. I tried King Kong and Call of Duty 2 on (I think) a Samsung HD tv. While the crisp, detailed graphics did impress me, the frame rates did not.

darkside 11-12-05 12:37 AM

Tried out the demo today. Granted these are early games, but the graphics did not impress me all that much. I'm sure the games will take better advantage of the 360 down the road, but the launch titles while better looking than current gen are not the jump I was expecting. Maybe these games only impress in 1080i.

Outside of that I liked everything else about the 360. The controller is excellent and the interface for media and Live looks really good. I'm definitely interested in the 360, but there is just not enough software to get me to deal with the high price tag. This may be a console I buy next Christmas though.

I was thinking the same thing but then again aren't most of them set up on LCD screens? The one I saw was. LCD's, while crsip and sharp can sometimes fudge the framerates. At least that was my observation on the 360 set up and other games being played on LCD's.

BeanDip says;

huh are you serious? i have 400 dollars alone in my video card so i can play games that look as good as the 360 will. not to mention the other couple grand so i have no lag. the 360 is a high end dream game machine for the masses that dont have 3-5 grand to make a gaming system.

360 from walmart says;

nah nan ha ha nah nah na na i'm cooler than you

Was watching a fellow play COD 2 today at Best Buy. I thought it looked pretty good. I have a pretty good PC and haven't checked out the game on my computer, but I thought the graphics were looking real good. Nothing earth shattering yet, but it doesn't worry me.

edstein 11-12-05 02:37 PM

I still see a lot of jaggies. What's up with that?

This didn't look like the typical kiosk (there is one at Gamestop in the Prudential Center in Boston with a 23 inch Sammy). It wasn't even in the video games section. The plasma was in the same place as all the tvs, but at the end of an aisle. I may be near there again soon, so I'll pop in to see if the game has changed.

I noticed that too along with some clipping in King Kong. I was kind of hoping to see that stuff cleaned up this next generation, but again these are early demos of launch titles so things may look better when the actual games are released and with future titles down the road.

BobDole42 11-12-05 06:47 PM

there have been some reports from xbox-scene that some of the kiosks are set up incorrectly and not displaying 720p, but rather 480i, hence the jaggies. Not sure if it's true though.
