What happened to Double Dragon?!

Hey guys,
Is anyone else annoyed that some franchises have absolutely no new games? I was pleasantly surprised when a new Ninja Gaiden came out. But why on earth don't some of these companies cash in on the old school big names? Double Dragon was huge back in the day...

By the way, I realize that the popular types of games has changed. But they could easily adapt the gameplay to something a little less redundant for today's gamers...

Well they did release Double Dragon Advance on the GBA.

I think the big thing is that the arcade nature of the game will hinder it doing anything significant on a newer system. You make a straight beat-em-up and people will complain it's too short, too shallow, etc.. You add enough to make it "acceptable" for today's standards and you'll get people saying that they muddied up the formula. They're making a new Final Fight.. so the genre isn't dead (though I can't remember how close the new game will be to the original series).

Probably the same reason we never saw another Streets of Rage.

I wouldn't mind seeing one but I'm kind of over that genre. Funny though, I used to LOVE those games.

I heard that The Warriors pretty much fits in this genre...I'd love to play it.

The Double Dragons join forces with some giant fighting frogs or maybe it was the ninja turtles. Anyway the bad guys laugh at them now.

Was Streets of Rage the one where you could also play as a Kangeroo?

that was Streets of Rage 3.

Anyway, given the tepid response of games like The Bouncer and the like...a game like this honestly wouldn't succeed. Ninja Gaiden was really riding the wave started by Devil May Cry.

Yes, and it's also the lamest 2D fighting game I've ever played. Yet for some reason, I still own a copy of it for the Atari Jaguar.

What about the Double Dragon movie? It is on the same level of crapiness as the Mario movie. At least Double Dragon had Robert Patrick (T1000) as the bad guy.

Don't forget it had Alyssa Milano as well - two of the only reasons to watch the movie.

Hmm...there is much evil in this thread. Need to bring some balance back by remembering the good old days.

Ahh...that's better.

There was an updated Pong game released awhile back. I think it was called Pong: The next level.
