Grabbing the shotgun is what triggers the appearance of the chainsaw guy. If you wait until after the bell rings, then grab the shotgun, the chainsaw guy never shows up.

Not true, I believe he shows up even before you get it. I just run in, shoot a villager, run back to the start of the level and pick them off one by one, sometimes using a grenade if I have to.

That's right. If you run into the building that has the shotgun and barricade the doors and windows, this also triggers him.

I dunno about the GC version but in this PS2 version there are two chainsaw guys in that section. One that is blocking the exit before the bell rings (I made sure to kill him before anyone else) and then another that shows up when you get the shotgun.

So far I'm really loving this game. But the only thing that bugs me is the merchant. I don't mind buying weapons and items since there's so much cash lying around but he sorta takes me out of the game. I'm just past the part when Ashley got kidnapped (again) by some bugs. Right now I'm at the part where I'm faced with several catapults for the second time.

Yeah...this game is sick. I'm not even half-way through it and there have already been so many memorable scenes.

Anyone here anything on when and on what platform RE5 will come out on?

RE 5 is coming for both Xbox360 and PS3. When asked about the release date, the producer jokingly said, "It will be out before the PS4 is released."
