Price drop on original X-Box/PS2?
So with the coming of both the holidays and the 360, do you think we'll see a price drop on these systems? I imagine they would want to clear out the old X-Boxes to make room for the new, and Sony would want to remain competitive since their new system isn't out until next year. Any news/opinions on the matter?

I would imagine that the Xbox will have a price drop by the end of the year. Once the 360 comes out, most people will not be wanting the "obsolete" Xbox anymore. PS2 may or may not drop this year, but it will most likely drop sometime before the PS3 comes out.
Game companies want you to buy their systems now at full price rather than later at a reduced price. Therefore, price drops are usually not announced until a day or two before the price actually drops.

I work in the gaming industry and the rumor going around is that the PS2 will drop to $99 or $129 shortly before the release of the X-box 360. So far no word on any X-box price drops...

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Sony Corp. on Thursday said it cut the U.S. price of its popular PlayStation 2 video game console by about 13 percent, saying the discount should help fuel demand.
In a statement, the company said that effective immediately the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system would retail for a suggested price of $129.99, down from a previous price of around $149.
Analysts have been waiting for a price reduction on Sony's market-leading video game console ahead of the expected release of its new PlayStation 3 in November.
Sony last cut the price on its stand-alone PS2 to about $149 from $179 in June 2004. To date, more than 101 million PlayStation 2 units have shipped worldwide.

Bringing this thread back from the dead since it's holiday shopping season and there has to be a deal out there. About to pick up a Silver Slim PS2 for my home office and wanted to see if there were any deals out there. Everyone has it for $129. The black one is also $129. Can't seem to find a Best Buy or Dell coupon to work with it. Has anyone been able to knock that price down?
