I mean, I just HAVE to be.
Additionally, TRU sent out an R'Zone mailer with a $5 off $14.99 game guide coupon. Huge YMMV, but I got the girl at the customer service desk at BB agree to take the competitor's coupon before I showed it to her. I ended up getting it for 7.99 yesterday. Then I had to return the 17.99 I got at Gamestop at launch. Figured they'd frown on me returning a game guide, so I made sure to take my BB receipt to corroborate my "better price" story and that I still had a guide and wasn't just returning it because I was done

Still haven't opened it either.

Actually the guide is more of an Atlas if anything. It will tell you places of interest in each city you visit but it doesn't spoil the story for you. I've been using it for character building purposes because they have a section in the front of the guide for each Character telling you the abilities/spells you get for each skill and how many points you need for them. It helps with the distribution of the skill points so I know which abilities I want to shoot for first. For a lengthy game such as this one I want to make sure I don't miss anything the first time through because chances are there won't be a second time. So, the guide for me is a must.

Yeah the guide is great, and it doesn't spoil things. It says stuff like "Perhaps you could find a way to make the ________ open up if you tried enough"

The game is on sale at Circuit City for $39.99 (Best Buy has it for regular price)

The guide is indeed on sale at Best Buy for $12.99, though.

I beat it. 86 hours.

The last couple of hours hit you with some connections to Dragon Quest III.. I was pleased to see them.

Just saw this on Slime Knights..

"Everybody going nuts over the Valkyrie Profile 2 announcement failed to notice the far more critically important announcement contained in the magazine, which is of a game in the works called Dragon Quest Yangus, supposedly a side story game. Nothing else has been stated about it, but hot damn."

I am also up to rank C in the monster arena. I can't seem to get past rank B.

You don't have TOO far to go after that.

Rank B and up require some of the big, bad monsters found where you are now.

What are some good monsters for getting past rank B?

Well, where you are now.. in the light version there should be some pretty big monsters there and once you are able to fly you can find some good monsters in areas only accessible with flight. If you found the Cure Slime he's pretty useful but I found him to be a crap shoot. You're realistically down to two monsters at that point and he doesn't seem to heal intelligently all the time.. If you make it past Rank A there's another couple of previous Dragon Quest surprises!

Damn! I should have waited a month and I would have saved $60.

Hmm. I bought the game at Best Buy today and paid $49.99 for it.

Looking forward to going home and playing tonight, but it'll be a while- got dinner/movie plans tonight so I won't be home until 11PM or so.

Circuit City had it in their Ad for this week, good through tomorrow for $39.99. I had bought this from Best Buy 2 weeks ago for $49.99 and went back and pricematched it with their ad just last night.

That's exactly the team that beat rank B for me. If you're only 26, level up more. I am like 37, and the monsters get more HP.

Question about an item found in the Pirate Cave:

Spoiler:
I found the Hades Helm in one of the treasure boxes and put it on Yangus. Now he's cursed and I can't remove the helmet. Any idea what to do with this helmet? I've reset to before the Pirate Cave before I decide what to do with that helmet.

Spoiler:
Have any Saint's Ashes? If so, try throwing the helm (or any cursed item) and the ashes into the alchemy pot. I don't know what you'll end up with or if a 3rd item would yield a better item since I haven't got that far yet.

Spoiler:
1. You didn't have to reset.. you can uncurse at a church.

2. Saint's Ashes, Alchemy Pot. 'Nuff said.

Pixy, cool, I'll try that. I probably only lost about 30 minutes, so I wasn't too mad.

Spoiler:
Uncursing at the church merely removes the item from the character, right? It doesn't make it safe to equip again. Saint's ashes are the way to go if you want a usable item.

That's right. Didn't mean to word it confusingly.

Some cursed items have hidden purposes though. The helmet that makes Yangus attack at 0 all the time can be used in conjunction with sleep spells and steal scythe skills to badger a single monster for its item if you need a particular item.

I plan on throwing it in the alchemy pot and seeing what I can build up.

Did I mention that this game is great?

I accidentally did that to the Hero with another item and it had no effect.
