Happy Birthday Mario!

Today marks the 20th anniversary of Mario's supposed inception on the Famicom (NES).

Although actually it's more like 22nd (or 24th if you count Donkey Kong), but who's counting? Super Mario Bros is really where it all began.

Happy birthday and thanks for the great memories.

One of the few game series I still enjoy playing.

I hope their next effort is better than Sunshine.

I remember when we drove to Sears to pickup our Nintendo we had on order. It was about the time it launched, I was the first kid in school to have one. Man was that a great system for its time. Super Mario was absolutely brilliant. It was a huge deal when I beat that game. I remember later there was that crazy trick of bouncing off the stairs with the turtle to get an infinite amount of lives.

So. How many games has our plump plumber starred in, exactly?

I loved the hell out of Sunshine; best 3D platform game I've played and I'm not a fan of Mario 64 at all.

Sunshine was enjoyable for a brief period of time and then I just got annoyed and bored with it.

Guess Mario isn't getting better with age.

Super Mario Bros. was the first NES gameI ever played, and I've enjoyed every Mario platformer since then. Happy Birthday Mario! Now if only New Super Mario Bros.(DS) was coming out much sooner...

Sunshine was a great addition to the series. It's not my favorite Mario game (SMB3 is), but it's up there.

Happy Birthday!!!!

I remember the first time I played SMB. I had problems getting over the holes. that first one was quite a doozy. not to mention the goomba at the beginning . Actually the last few levels were some of the toughest ever, the one with the hammer bros by the castle wall, I died so many times. I've progressed quite a bit as a gamer in terms of experience level, now i can beat it in no time, but I enjoy seeing my cousins play SMB1 and struggle with it and show them tricks like unlimited 1UP trick. I actually showed some of my friends -1 the other day, I figured everyone knew about it but they totally didn't believe me until I showed them and it blew their minds that they didn't know about it.

Anyway about mario sunshine, it still has some of the best and tightest gameplay this gen. It is unfairly criticized because it wasn't the revolution that Mario 64 was but its still a good game on its own. Personally the spinoffs have been fantastic, like Paper Mario and Mario and Luigi, they never cease to amaze me.

Super Mario Sunshine got a bad rap because of all the [Pixy]XXXTreme[/Pixy] gamers and reviewers focusing on the clean-up of the "pollution," when it was really only prominent in the first few levels.

I still think my favorite part of the game is the a cappella remix of the Mario theme that was featured in the water pack free rounds.

Super Mario Sunshine also had some cool boss battles.
