DARTH GAMER 09-28-05 09:43 AM

Just picked mine up at 10:30. I desided to get the PS2 version instead of XBOX just incase there is a problem with the backwards comp. I have this wierd feeling I'll be playing these games well into the new generation. (Cough...Ghosts n' Goblins, Cough..) I still don't come anywhere near beating this game.

redcat 09-28-05 09:50 AM

I've ordered mine, but I'm sure it won't get here until after the weekend. I'll be curious to read people's impressions. It seems like people are always disappointed with nostalgia compilations, so hopefully this one will hold up.

I'll check to see if it came today, but I think it stink that PSP get Strider on their collection. Hopefully Capcom well released this on the next collection.

It does kinda stink Strider will be a PSP exclusive, but I still have the PS1 release of the original arcade game, and the genesis version, which are fine by me

... I will be picking this game up after work today, cant wait!!!

the bonus stages in sf2 should be in. they took them out in the anniversary collection which was odd. can't wait to play final fight. had the watered down version on snes.

The arcade version of Bionic Commando (which was also released for the C64) was much different from the NES version. The arcade game was a relatively simple action game without the adventure elements of the NES version. It's a bit like the arcade version of Rygar vs. the NES version:
The NES version had a great deal more depth.

I picked up this collection last night, and for me, it was worth it for the Ghosts 'n Goblins games alone. I also enjoyed playing Trojan (which is actually a lot like the NES version) and Commando again. Very nostalgic.

The SF2 ports are a bit off. The sound effects are botched.

I got to play around with this a bit over the weekend, one of the best put-together classics collections I've seen in terms of presentation. In my opinion, the PSP version should be volume 2 on the console version.. there are some bad ass games in that trailer.. and of course even if you get the PSP version, you're missing out on all that's on the console version!!

pinata242 10-03-05 02:35 PM

Was there a Vol 2 trailer on the disc? I didn't poke around much. Remember any of the games off hand?

PixyJunket 10-03-05 02:57 PM

Not a volume 2 trailer but a trailer for the PSP version which appears to be a collection of games that SHOULD make up volume 2. There was Black Tiger, Three Wonder, Mega Twins (aka Chiki Chiki Boys), Magic Sword and Strider are all I remember off-hand.. there were plenty more games flashed in the trailer.

 I want 1942 on the PSP

It's the perfect game for a handheld, esp being a shooter.

Played it this week. Final Fight is as fun as ever. I actually really enjoy Son Son. I hated it at first, but it became really addicting.

KingSmoth 10-04-05 09:02 PM

Picked up the collection release day, and I love it. I bought it for the Ghosts games and Final Fight, but I've been playing everything. I played Mercs once loooong ago, but didn't remember the title until I got around to it on the collection. This is a sweet set.

Glad to see Magic Sword will be on there, I love that game.

just played it today. beat final fight, so much better than the snes version. the sf music stopping doesn't really bother me.

Looks like the PSP version will be out in March :)

From the above link:

Among the Classics here are 1941, Avengers, Block Block, Captain Commando, Magic Sword, Quiz and Dragons, Street Fighter, Strider, Three Wonders, and Varth.
So I'm assuming that's not a typo and that the PSP version will be getting the original Street Fighter? I need to find a list of all the games on the PSP version to figure out what's the same, what's new, and what's omitted from the PS2/Xbox version.

Count me as disappointed. I rented this from Gamefly and I am glad it was a rental. These games just aren't as fun to me as they were back in the 80's and early 90's. They just don't seem to hold up as well as Pac-man, Ms. Pac-man, Galaga, etc.

I enjoyed playing Final Fight the most but it really have no replay value. Many of the games' controls for the console are horrible. Pushing different buttons to aim up, left, right, and pushing buttons to change positions.

I don't know if Xevious was the first of it's kind but it seems like every company ripped off that game. There are several on here with the exact same gameplay but poorer execution.
