Dirty disc errors on the Xbox
I just noticed something very strange while playing the Hulk on my Xbox. I got a dirty disc error, which usually mean a restart. This time the game told me I got a dirty disc error to clean the disc or press "A" to continue. Hell this is a feature I hope other developer start to use.

that would be nice, but what would be even nicer would be microsoft fixes the damn xbox so this didn't happen in the first place. i really hope they got the optics right on the 360 because if i get dirty disc errors on new disc i'm going to beat them.

I remember a similar feature in Morrowind. Instead of the dirty disc error out of the blue, you see the game autosave, the display the error. It only happened once, so I may not be remembering exactly right.

I get that message a lot when playing Burnout 3. The disk is clean, and not a mark or scratch on it, but yet the message keeps popping up. Sorry to hear that it is a wide-spread thing.

This is a widespread problem on older X-Boxes that use the Thompson drive. I was getting them constantly while playing Ninja Gaiden and Fable, so I did some research and that was the drive I had.
You can buy a replacement drive for probably $50 or so off ebay, and switch out the drives, or just wait the couple months until the 360 comes out if you're gonna get one anyways. I ended up trading mine in at GameStop for $75 in credit, and then went and bought a new one at Best Buy that same night. Probably about the same amount I would've had to pay for a new drive, and I was way into Fable at the moment and didn't want any downtime.

I'd love to see them program in the blue screen of death when it happens, just so you know you are fucked.
