Question on Playstation prices
Hello! I'm new to these parts, so forgive me if I should be in another thread. For awhile I've been thinking about purchasing a Playstation (yeah, the first one) just so I can get "Resident Evil" and "Twisted Metal" (both the first ones I believe). Maybe I'd expand from there, but those would be the main reasons.
My question is, I saw a used Playstation for $20 the other day.. is this a good price, or could I do better? Also, how reliable are used gaming products from a place such as Game Stop, or other video game stores?
Thanks much!

$20 for the original playstation is not out of line in my opinion but it is top dollar. I think they still sell them new for $50? At least from gamestop you can take it back if it doesn't work. Make sure you get a first party dual shock controller, AC adapter and RF adapter. You might be able to do better at Flea Markets, yard sales or even Goodwill / Salvation Army. I see them all the time on the cheap in these places for like $10.
Of course the PS2 plays PSone games and that can be had for $150.

If you are only going to be playing PS1 games, going the PS1 route may be the best idea. I picked up a PSOne w/ LCD Screen for $100 NIB last year right after they announced they were stopping production of the LCD. If you can find this bundle, definitely pick it up as the LCD screen is super sweet and makes the console somewhat portable. Otherwise, $20 sounds about right. All the PSOne accessories can be had for $5, so you should have no problem getting them new or used for cheap.
Don't forget that PSOne games need a PSOne memory card to save (no PS2 cards). If you don't plan on playing an PS2 games for a while, this will definitely tide you over til you can get a PS3 which will play everything anyway.

Thank you for the replies! My debate actually solved itself last night. Apparently my brother still has his Playstation 2, and was going to get rid of it. He told me he'd give it to me, but I said I'd give him something for it! He can put the money towards another guitar. So now I just have to hunt for the two games that I want off the bat, it'll be fun!
So a couple more questions since they were made mention of.. if I have a PS2, I still need a PS1 memory stick to save those games? And forgive my ignorance, but what is a "first party dual shock controller"?
Thanks again!

Yes, you'll need a PS1 memory card. And most people would recommend getting a first party (made by Sony themselves, not a third party such as mad katz) memory card.
So that kind of answers your second question also I guess.

I would greatly recommend buying Sony made first part memory cards and controllers. The ones made by companies like Mad Katz and Pelican are really a crap shoot. You might get a good one and you might get something that controls poorly and in extreme cases even damage your console. The third party memory cards are notorious for failing.
