I went to play one last go around with NCAA 2005 before the new game comes out tomorrow. Here's the problem and I hope some can help me. When you turn it on, the button that makes the disc go in and out turns red instead of the normal green. The power goes on and off as well. This is the first time anything like this has happend to it. Does this sound like something you guys have seen before? Thanks.

Check if the AV Cable is loose.

I agree it's just a loose A/V connection or the A/V pack has gone bad, do you have the Hi-Def pack? Because the original ones have been known to cause a problem although I've never experienced anything unusual with mine.

"The status indicator light should be green while the Xbox video game system in on, or flash green when you press the eject button. If the status indicator light flashes continually during operation, the Xbox video game system has an internal problem:

Continual orange flashing: The Xbox console is too hot and will not play games until cooled. Place the Xbox console in a well-ventilated area away from other heat sources. Once the console cools, the flashing will stop and the Xbox video game system can be played.

Continual green and orange flashing: The AV cable is not connected properly.

All other patterns: Internal problem requires service.

Personally it sounds like the DVD Drive is going, but maybe I'm wrong.

I checked the AV connections and the power supply. It's still doing the same thing. I have had the X-Box since it first came out in 2001. It's funny because I just got the new power plug in the mail a couple of weeks ago. As much as my family and I have played it, I got my money's worth out of it and then some.

I don't know what to do know. I have a ton of X-Box games and nothing to play them on. I don't want to buy another one with the 360 around the corner. Any suggestions?

That is exactly what what is wrong with mine. Very similar we bought ours around that time and also replaced power cord about 4 months ago.

I wonder if the new cord could be the cause of the problem? I called X-Box help line and they said I could have it repaired for 80 bucks plus shipping. I think I will pass on that.

I did the same thing as you, called and said forget it. Just sold it for $70 on half.com nets me just $60.

You've got a launch date X-box with the Thomson drive which probably means the drive went. Check out this guy's website for info if you want to try to fix your X-box.

I had the same exact issues about 9 months ago, so I just bought a replacement Thomson drive on e-bay for around $40 including shipping, replaced the old one with the new one, and haven't had an issue ever since. Replacement was simple as long as you have the Torx screwdrivers.
