Ok. I just thought my memory was going to hell, I now realize what you are saying about the vector units, although they should not be confused with being similar to program as cores IMO.

Regarding all platforms, its really a function of the tools that the companies provide that make it"easy" or "hard". Obviously if its a familiar architecture then can more readily exploit the hardware, but even then the developers are at the merc of the tools they are given. Most developers couldn't code crap in a handbasket they weren't given these developer "suite" packages. This is one thing Sony claims to be all about this generation, providing good tools. It is also wh they have agreed to make much of the cell operating code open source, to leverage the benefits of the global community in developing effective tools.
