DS to be bundled with Mario 64 for $150?
Was mentioned in another thread as just an EB sale starting Sunday. Word now is that it is an official Nintendo bundling.

Defintely need to wait for more official word, but it would make great business sense for Nintendo.

CAG Wombat5277 reports, "I know this had been posted as part of the EB June sale, but I just got word that this will be offered at all "participating retailers" across the country. Nintendo produced national TV spots for it yesterday. As far as a start date for the sale, I am going to guess June 12, for thats when the EB sale starts."

I think the Metroid Demo has run its course so this is a logical next step for them. They can add value to the system without having to drop the price of the hardware.
I wish they had other bundle options besides Mario 64. My sons wants a DS now and we already have Mario 64. Guess I can always sell the extra copy.

Makes the offer more tempting, but I would have preferred Nintendogs, Advance Wars, or perhaps polarium even.
edit: I understood that Nintendo included the metroid demo to appear more "mature orientated" with the DS, I wonder if Mario is a step back in that goal.

No, Advance Wars is out later this fall I believe.
They really have no choice, none of their other first party DS games, while good (i.e. Warioware Touched, Yoshi's Touch and Go etc.) out now are going to push many people over the edge to pick up the DS. Mario won't be very effective either, but it's the most attractive bonus they have right now.

So... If this deal is legit (besides the EB factor) this means if you buy a DS relatively soon after the "deal" you should get a copy of Mario DS seperate and the Metroid demo game. I imagine that after a while Nintendo will simply include it in the box and pull the Metroid demo out.
Does the elctric blue DS come with a metroid demo? Since that is arriving today it would be strange if Nintendo did not plan to simply include the Mario game from the get go.

got it, thanks. The lack of a metroid demo makes this all but 100% certain that mario is the new pack in.

You can make this deal even better at Best Buy. They have an online coupon for $10 off for every $100 you spend (up to $500). Just go here and login, then put a DS and Super Mario in your cart and it'll automatically make Mario free and subtract $10 from your total to make it $139.99. Select in-store pickup to avoid shipping charges.

As usual my Best Buy has plenty of systems but no Mario 64's. It looks like I have to order online. Do all of the silver systems come with the Metroid demo? I could care less about the color. I figure I might as well get something extra.
Updated 5pm
I went to Best Buy on my lunch break. For some reason they decided to pull every copy of Mario and keep them in the back for some reason.
Since when did Best Buy get so pushy on the extended warranty sales? The cashier was pretty much threatening that the system would die in 3 months and Nintendo would not cover it. They also mentioned that the warranty covers anything that happens to the screen. Which I highly doubt. I said no several times but they still kept going on with the sales pitch.

Just a heads up for those still thinking about getting in on this offer.
Nintendo finally offically announced this deal on their website:
http://www.nintendods.com/mario/
It seems there are now seven retailers who are offering it:
Sears
GameStop
Fred Meyer
Toys R Us
Best Buy
EB Games
KMart
Note the "For a limited time. While supplies last", which means Nintendo could pull the plug on this deal at anytime so you might want to hurry if you're thinking about it.

BestBuy was out of Mario aswell but I talked them into giving me a different game. I still had my Mario from the first time I bought the system. This time i got the blue, this sytem is just awesome. The new kirby game is great.

Apparently this isn't going to be an official bundle after all.
The TV ads say "By a Nintendo DS and get Super Mario 64 free for a limited time at participating retailers."
So I'd jump on it if you're on the fence.

I would think a price drop to $129 would be next.
