If you're doing me favors then go download the artwork Or better yet, quit playing because this is the only game I like this time, but I've only gotten as high as 34,000.
At least my screenshots look better than yours. I think I went to the vector settings and maxed out the intensity. I'll just have to Photochop yours when you win.

Just checked in. A whole passel of 15+ hour days kept me elsewhere.
Great score on BATTLEZONE, Devil! I've been at this game off and on for ~25 years (!), and yet the best I can muster is 60,000. (I even had the privilege of playing the ultra-rare "Army Battlezone" prototype once, of which there are only two in existence, je pense.)
Looks like TOYPOP is going over like a lead balloon. Don't worry, Roto. I'll pick something less obscure/cutey-pie next round, if I have the honor.

No need to apoligize. I've picked worse. Well, maybe not worse, but at least as bad How'd you get to play the Army Battlezone?
I don't think I'm going to get close to that Battlezone score. The 2nd tanks are too damn fast. I can't figure out how to evade them when they pop up from behind. You can outrun the first tanks.

I played it at the 2002 California Extreme show. Ed Rotberg, BATTLEZONE's master architect, and a few other erstwhile Atari employees were there. The "game" itself was actually boring, but that's understandable since this version was designed wholly as a training sim (not many 5,000 pt. UFOs on a real battlefield).
I dug up a picture that I snapped. Enjoy!

I'm going to be out-o-town tonight and tomorrow, so I thought I'd proactively offer my next choice (unless someone takes a sudden shine to TOYPOP). And the winner is...TWIN COBRA!
What do you think? It's very RAIDEN-esque and was quite the popular kid on the block back in '88. But if this sounds like eating your alfalfa, I have others in mind...lemme know!

I'd like to choose Cliff Hanger (or Space Ace or Dragon's Lair) but not sure if they became roms. Was playing these old machines at e3 and forgotten how much fun I had with them.
Of course, I can choose something a little less formulaic.

Dragon's Lair is in MAME, but you have to have the videos off either the pc game or dvd. I would be all for picking one of those, but we'd be lucky if one person got it running. Just find out where you can buy the games. They're cheap. Dragon's Lair 3D for the Xbox was pretty cool, and not so linear.

I was also contemplating MOUSE TRAP, SATAN'S HOLLOW, & SUPER SPACE INVADERS '91. If you want a break from overhead shooters, try one of those.

I don't really have a preference for any of the games Ignatius listed. If anyone wants to play one of those, speak up and we'll play that one or I'll just go with his original choice of Twin Cobra.
If you want you can use Iggy's pick on Satan's Hollow and still pick another game for yourself

SATAN'S HOLLOW lame...? It's a bona fide classic! It had a cool cab; a great "Gorfian" joystick; Wagner (!); and most of all...Satan! The enemy bird creatures stealing the player's extra men is also a nice touch. What's not to love?
MOUSE TRAP has that nutty bird, which is impossible to avoid at times (a fault in the game's design, IMHO). But man, was I envious of any Ritchie Rich Colecovision owners back in the day...! The home version for it was nearly perfect. Plus, the arcade game's immortalized in Dario Argento's TENEBRAE.
The SPACE INVADERS update has cow-mutilating UFOs; giant, time-stopping butterflies; and...well, cow-mutilating UFOs!
MAME is so sublime.
