Wario Ware: Twisted!

This game looks sweet! IGN has their review up:

10 Presentation
The game is fun, frantic, and jams in as much "stuff" as possible to create an experience unlike anything you've ever played before.
8.5 Graphics
The graphics are all over the spectrum, but it's all intentional. And the crude drawing style actually adds flair to the design.
8.5 Sound
Tons of voice from characters, and a huge amount of tunes to unlock and tweak in the Souvenir shop.
9.5 Gameplay
The only downside, if it really can be considered one, is that you'll have to keep your eyes on the twisting LCD screen. It's a game that fits the handheld system like a glove. Brilliant.
9.0 Lasting Appeal
Though the story mode's over in a couple of hours, to open up everything in this cartridge will take way longer.
9.5 OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

I've been waiting for this one for awhile now, sounds like a generally crazy and unique game. And speaking of crazy, the wario ware twisted website is seriously on LSD, sometimes nintendo does stuff so unpredictable they've got to be the funniest company i've ever seen. :)

dcswirl 05-22-05 01:57 PM

Is this game going to work with the DS?

Brent L 05-22-05 03:00 PM

Yes.

I now will be buying this on the release date. :D

asianxcore 05-22-05 06:21 PM

got to play a little of this game when a nintendo rep stopped by a couple weeks ago at work. it was really fun, and I am definitely going to get it. the cartridge is built different/specialized, like the on for Boktai 2, so it will work on either the DS or the GBA SP

Josh H 05-22-05 09:56 PM

Wow, looks like this is a lot better than Touched!. I haven't picked that one up yet since all the reviews said it was way easier than the original and quick to unlock everything. Sounds like this one's a little more involved.

Too bad no one is going to have it on sale on release date. Best Buy didn't even list it in this week's sale flyer. :(

Picked it up this morning at Blockbuster. It was $29.99, but I was just using store credit anyway. I'll post my thoughts after I get a chance to play it.

jediwicz 05-24-05 03:34 PM

I've only played 2 levels but so far this game rocks (ugh, literally). The cart is oversized but the feedback is nice, it let's you feel how far you're tilted. I'm glad I finally have a reason to pick up my SP again, the PSP was fun but cannot hold a candle to Nintendo produced titles.

darkside 05-24-05 03:35 PM

I've got like $80 in credit at Blockbuster since I cancelled MVP Baseball so I'm going to go and pick this one up.

darkside 05-24-05 08:01 PM

Finally getting the hang of playing this one. It is really good.

BTW, it does unlock the Mona music video in Wario Ware Touched if you have this in the cart slot when starting Touched.

Brent L 05-24-05 08:07 PM

Like I said, I did indeed get this game today. I've played quite a bit of it, and I love it. I love these Wario Ware games, I'm a huge sucker for em. This game plays a LOT better than I thought it would when I first heard of the idea. Just as I've said for all of the Wario Ware games, I give this one two thumbs up. :)

musick 05-25-05 12:40 AM

this game just shows those Nintendo guys can be ingenious when they set their minds to it
(I'm sure games like this also are worth the extra effort for them since they are much harder to pirate)

Really? Nice TOUCH! ;)

Dunno how I missed it in the Best Buy flyer... still $29.99 is their regular price, not on sale. :(

RichC2 05-26-05 08:49 PM

I'm tempted to buy an SP for this game alone. (and the huge back library in the long run)

Worth it?

Josh H 05-26-05 08:55 PM

Sure, but I'd suggest getting a DS instead if you can afford the extra $$$.

The GBA has a ton of great games, the DS has a better screen and is larger (and thus IMO more comfortable to play) and has some great games coming out in the future.

RichC2 05-26-05 09:08 PM

Yeah. I considered that but cannot afford a DS for now.

I think it would be worth it to pick up the SP and Wario Ware Twisted and Zelda Minish Cap. Two of the best games I have played this year. Wario Ware Twisted is actually a bit easier to play on the SP. Its smaller so you can turn faster. Some of the minigames in this one are very tough.

TheMadMonk 05-26-05 10:12 PM

Good game so far. I was surprised that some games make you actually keep turning the SP around, going hand over hand like a steering wheel; I was expecting to just have to tilt it a bit left or right.

Outlaw 05-27-05 12:16 AM

good impressions, I'm picking this up on friday

asianxcore 05-27-05 02:38 PM

has anyone played this game on a DS? I am wondering how comfertable to be turning the DS around and around since it is bigger than an SP.

I've played it on both and its playable on the DS, but much easier on the SP. You do have minigames that require quick and 360 turning and that can be difficult with the DS.

Ralph Wiggum 05-27-05 07:47 PM

I've been having a ton of fun with this game. Easily my favorite of the WarioWare games to date.

spainlinx0 05-28-05 04:43 AM

Has anyone gotten to the third tower yet? It's the one where you start out with only one life. I cannot get higher than 12 on that. I don't know why, but I am sucking it up at those games. Anyone know what level is needed to unlock the next question mark?

I believe its 25 on each tower to unlock the next one.

spainlinx0 05-28-05 11:33 AM

Man, that's impossible. It took me forever to move up to 15. I don't think I'll ever be able to get 25 with only one life.

spainlinx0 05-28-05 04:04 PM

Well the question mark I hadn't unlocked wasn't from that last tower. If you score over 50 on the Warioclock thing then you get an even harder clock section. I have to stop playing this game.

darkside 05-28-05 04:27 PM

Yep, the third tower is the last one. Can't believe you got 50 on the clock. I keep screwing it up in the 30's. I still can't unlock the last Frank minigame either. Its the only one I'm missing. I've played through the various story modes over and over, but I can't get that last Frank one.

spainlinx0 05-28-05 08:58 PM

I hadn't even paid attention to the Fronk stuff because I was trying to get gold crowns. I should go back and play the story guys again.

Oh, it is Fronk. My bad, I thought it said Frank. My eyes were getting a little bleary staring at the screen so much. Still haven't unlocked the last one, but I'm sure I will get something for unlocking all the minigames so I'm going to keep trying.

Outlaw 05-29-05 12:54 AM

Picked up this game yesterday, I love it! Was looking for something different and this defintely fits the criteria and turns it up 10 notches. I was also impressed at how well the game controls, I'm not sure what I as expecting but the controls are very tight (for this kind of controller), and the feedback works very well.

I was thinking the same thing too. Much more sensitive then I would have imagined. Maybe a preview of the Revolution controller? They did it with the wireless adapter for the GBA.

TheMadMonk 05-29-05 08:36 AM

I agree with the controls. They are much better than what I expected.

spainlinx0 05-29-05 11:44 AM

Unlocked every minigame, and your reward is
Spoiler:
A game with that little bird. You have to swat bugs away from flowers with your break. Pretty fun.

spainlinx0 05-29-05 11:45 AM

Anyone else's DS top screen seem to be getting a little loose from all the shaking? I'm not sure if it was always like that or from my Twisted abuse.

Gamblor187 05-31-05 12:20 PM

I've got to admit that I wasn't too happy with this game at first. It took me a while to get used to it. But now that I've got the hang of it, I can't put it down. I've got everything unlocked except the last game. I think that you have to get a crown on every game in the Spindex to unlock it. That could take a while.

Perhaps thats Nintendo's strategy to sell more DS units...;)

Unlocked the final minigame and got that bonus this weekend. I haven't had any trouble with my screen getting loose, but I have been using my SP instead of my DS to play it. I agree though it does seem like it could put some major strain on the hinge. This would actually be a great game to play on the micro.

Outlaw 05-31-05 06:48 PM

Yes I have thrown my GBA SP like a frizbee vertically in the air. And I'm addicted, what are your high scores for some of the games, so far my best is 34 on Mona, i've unlocked most of the stages except a few.

On the ski jump game, my best was 258.8 ft

darkside 05-31-05 09:28 PM

My two best so far on the stages.
