PC Gaming SFF-style
Anyone else use a sff pc for pc gaming?
I just built a new computer an SN25P from shuttle
SPECS:
SN25P
AMD Athlon 64 3200+
1 gb (2x512) Kingston hyperx pc3200
Seagate 300 gb serial ata hard drive
ATI x800XL pci express 256mb
NEC 3520A
Hyundai L90D+ 19" LCD
It's a great little system and a big change from my old computer, P3 550, 192mb ram, geforce 2 gts. Looks great on the desk. Was pretty easy to
install the components and set everything up.
I tried out Far Cry last night, looked great, I think I had all the settings maxed. I am looking forward to trying out WOW tonight.
Anyways I think I just wanted to brag about my new computer, but wanted to know if anyone else was using a sff computer.

They aren't the cheapest way to go for computers, basically you get a case, power supply, and motherboard (and card reader if you count that). You could go much cheaper probably around $200 for all that if you wanteda tower, but more like $250 if you got good components in a typical tower setup(nforce 4, good psu and case).
You can get cheaper shuttles though, mine is the latest and greatest and has lots of extra features so it costs more, for a simpler machine, like for the wife, you can get some good older shuttles much cheaper. I think this would make a good machine for the average user

As for heat, I know people are running much more than I am in their cases. I haven't checked my temps under load. I know I have seen tests (by shuttle) with the latest video cards, 2 raid wd raptors, prescotts or Athlon 64 fx processors, and everything else you could throw at a machine and the machines kept going while folding or extended gaming. The SN25P psu is also a 350, pretty good size for a sff case.

Here's my Shuttle SB65G2 I put together in January of 2004:
SPECS:
SB65G2
Intel P4 2.8GHz (800MHz FSB)
1 gb (2x512) Kingston non-hyperx pc3200
2x Western Digital 120GB PATA hard drives
MSI GeForce4 Ti4200 AGP 128MB
Pioneer DVR-106D
Cornea MP704 17" LCD
It's great for lan parties. I haven't had any problems with overheating or system stability at all. Although, my SFF is a lot noisier than my previous tower case.
Components I'd like to upgrade & what I'd like to upgrade to:
Video card: GeForce 6800
DVD-R drive: NEC 3520
Hard Drives: 2x 250GB SATA (unsure which brand)
Monitor: Viewsonic VX924 19" LCD (4ms response time)

I've put together nearly a dozen different shuttle systems - they're awesome. As groucho mentioned, heat can be an issue, but the thing that concerns me more is the power supplies. Haven't had any complaints yet though, so it's all good I guess.

My 220w power supply handles everything in my system better than my 350w in my previous tower. I haven't had any power issues. Now when I get a video card that requires power we'll see what happens.
