If I had to pick from the three designs, I'd lean slightly to the Nintendo; its design maintains what I liked about the Cube: small and simple. But to be honest, I can't say for sure because I've only seen pictures. I want to see them in person before I say what I like best. I certainly don't think any of them have been disappointing looking at the least, with maybe Xbox 360 being white only possible negative, but it's so minor. I'm not going to get excited about the look or the specs of any machine because I'm buying them all to play games, and I've yet to be shown much of that yet. *cue violin music*

It shouldn't be any more expensive than the competition and Nintendo might surprise us and sell it for $100 less again.

I like the less is more Nintendo look. Off to watch the presentation online.

I disagree. HD is the hottest new technology on the market. If Nintendo doesn't do HD, it is a HUGE misstep in being taken seriously.

When is the presentation? I want to know when I should "take a break" during work to make sure I'm watching this forum. :D

Should start any minute I believe it was scheduled for 9am PST.

vd0man 05-17-05 11:05 AM

I thought GameSpot was going to broadcast it for free, but apparently not. It was free last year, but now you gotta subscribe...bummer.

 I think the PS3 is absolutely hideous. It's ENORMOUS! Look at this thing in relation to a person!

I like small and I like flat. I'm thinking that Nintendo decided to go small and cheap and forgo power though. That's a bummer. The Nintendo is so small, I can't believe they packed much more than what Gamecube has inside.

spainlinx0 05-17-05 11:06 AM

Well I'm a subscriber, and I'm still not seeing shit.

darkside 05-17-05 11:07 AM

Crap, maybe I got it wrong and it starts at 10am PST.

spainlinx0 05-17-05 11:08 AM

No, Gamespot has it listed as 9AM PST, but it's just showing a picture of the Nintendo logo and playing music.

Gamespot says 9 PST but Nintendo's website says 10 PST.

spainlinx0 05-17-05 11:09 AM

Guess I won't be here to see it then. Oh well, I can always just download the video later.

You ever hear of 'forced perspective'? :D In one of these threads, someone posted a pic which showed it smaller than the 360 by comparing the power input plug on the back. I'm still waiting for measurements, but I'm not sure they are finalized.

Even still. Its hideous. I don't want that thing in my living room! (Well, unless Nintendo drops the ball on HD, that is. :D)

Is the Nintendo Conference on yet?

On IGN it said Media Briefing starts in 2 minutes, but the Nintendo site shows the conference as starting at 10am PST.

Even if I thought the PS3 (or others) were hideous, I don't even factor that into a purchase plan. The system could be ugly, huge, a color I don't like, etc.. as long as there's a good game to play it's welcome in my home. If I like the look of a system, that infatuation lasts all of 10 minutes as I'm taking it out of the box and hooking it up to the TV.

I don't buy into the power/size argument. The PS3 looks to be MUCH smaller than the Xbox 360 and is 35 BILLION TIMES MORE POWERFUL THAN THE PS2! Either way, raw power is only going to take games so far this generation.

darkside 05-17-05 11:32 AM

I wonder how much it will cost to develop a PS3 game that actually pushed the hardware to the max much less filled a Blue Ray DVD?

edytwinky 05-17-05 11:34 AM

Dumb question but does this conference start at Noon central standard time?

Yes.

darkside 05-17-05 11:38 AM

You know despite all this buzz over the consoles I'm really more interested in hearing about the upcoming DS lineup from Nintendo. I hope they talk about that a lot during the briefing.

The DS games and PoPoLoCrois on the PSP are high on my want list.

I've been thinking about that too. Part of me is wondering if the budgets that are going to have to go into making the games that push the hardware and the expectations certain companies are hyping us up to are going to end up killing the companies making these games or increase game cost at the consumer level. Lower budgeted, unique or obscure games are going to have a hell of a time getting out of the door with the expectations and sales numbers set by games based on sports or movie franchises.

/End conspiracy theory. ;)

Yeah, yeah.. it'll likely go the OTHER way but you can't help to think the way the "industry" is going it ends up black holing itself.

PixyJunket 05-17-05 11:41 AM

18 minutes according to www.nintendo.com!

Exactly. This is a huge mistake on their part.
The design is fine by me. Black, sleek, and stackable. But if they want to cater to the older crowd HD is a must. But then again we really don't know what this box is capable of yet. Maybe some 3d thing that can't be done in HD?

sureAV421 05-17-05 11:43 AM

i love the design, but no HD...suicide on their part.
