I recently updated my Call of Duty for online play and alot of the games I wanted to enter had some wierd symbol (looks like a guy crossed out) and a hammer. When one or the other was marked with an X and I tried to enter it would tell me to install that Punk Buster.

What is it?

I believe Punkbuster is "anti cheating" software, keeps people from using mods and power-ups...

Punk Buster is a program used to help take care of online cheaters. It usually works by checking your hd for files that may be used for cheating. Not 100% cheater free, but for the most part servers using it cut down on the cheaters much more than a server that doesn't use it. Download it, it will benefit you.

No its all good. Like they said its just a anti cheating software for online gaming.

I think Punk Buster has been around awhile. I remember using it in my online Counter Strike days. Back then it didn't do a great job keeping games cheat free. Im curious if it works well for other online games now?

Yeah - punk buster has been around for quite awhile... and it has never been 100% effective. Early versions were buggy, but new versions are integrated into the games and work fine.

Yea RTCW uses it and for the most part it works fine

a lot of online games use punk buster to kill cheaters. it is just too bad it doesn't bitch slap them in real life too.
