Hello Gran Turismo 4 everybody, that game is a walking advertisement, there are an insane amount of advertisements in that game.
Naaa I am totally kidding, for real though, as mentioned its fine in an atmosphere that you would see in day to day life (Billboard for Shell Gas in GT4) thats acceptable, but if I see a Dunkin' Doughnuts ad when Link is entering Death mountain thats the final straw :) |

Now if they start cramming ads in before games, or make them intrusive, i'll definitely get upset. I understand it's expensive to make games, but i have to deal with enough ads in tv, movies, internet, i don't want to deal with it just to enjoy my games.
See this is what I think is gonna happen. Billboards in racing/GTA/modern type games...fine whatever. But just you watch, we're gonna have to sit through ads for gamefly.com, Taco Bell, and Mountain Dew before we even get to the games start menu. And to think I'm already frustrated by the "EA Tracks" quasi-adverts. |
The first time I saw ads in a game must have been over 10 years ago. The TMNT arcade game, there were giant Pizza Hut billboards everywhere, and all the pizzas you picked up were from Pizza hut. So ads are really nothing new, but I hope the amount of ads in game doesn't start growing to a ridiculous number per game.
