The recent FPS list for XBOX....opinions?
Ok, with the barage of FPS that have came out recently, I though we should try to group them all together:
Out Now:
Halo 2 - great
Star Wars:Republic Commando - Fun game, single player was short, multiplayer was just an afterthought
Ghost Recon 2 - Fun game, single player kinda gets boring
Project:Snowblind - I found it rather boring, generic
Goldeneye:Rogue Agent - Hated by most, single player was average, multiplayer was average also....got it for $15, that's the max I would pay
Timesplitters:Future Perfect - Fun game.....I really enjoy it, lots of options, mapmaker
Brothers In Arms - Haven't played....many LOVE it though
Doom 3 - Decent game...I personally don't enjoy it much, kind of generic and boring after a while. LIVE play was a let down with only 4 player deathmatch
Call of Duty:Finest Hour - I found it rather bland and boring. LIVE play just plain sucked
Conflict Vietnam - Don't know enough to comment, no LIVE I believe though
Men of Valor - Don't know enough...played a demo, was fair
Oddworld:Strangers Wrath - Never played...seems like a different take on the genre
Vietcong:Purple Haze - I know nothing
XIII - Older, put people like it...I did not
Close Combat:First to Fight - Comes out this week, pretty piss-poor reviews
Unreal Championship 2 - Most will LOVE it....I thought the demo was average
FUTURE Releases:
Rainbow Six:Lockdown - Looks GREAT
Pariah - Seems promising, map maker
Area 51 - Another futuristic FPS....demo was average
Blackhawk Down: Delta Force - 50 player LIVE matches!
Conker:Live and Reloaded - Ok, it's 3rd person....oops
Darkwatch - There is a demo, that's all I know
Far Cry - Is it coming, maybe XBOX 2
Half-Life 2 - Is it coming?
Duke Nukem Forever - ?vReally?

only ones i can comment on: (from a single player perspective...I don't have LIVE.)
Halo 2 -- fantastic
Brothers In Arms -- Excellent...but not much replay after you beat it once...sold it yesterday.
Ghost Recon 2 -- just got it last week...only on like the 3rd mission -- Very Cool-- kinda hard
Doom 3(collectors edition) -- just got it yesterday...I absolutely love it...about 4 hours into it.
Area 51 -- I have played the demo from OXM -- this game sucks IMHO
Close Combat: First to Fight -- I want to get this I think...but I want to see some reviews first.

Anyway concerning the thread, Pariah is gonna rule and HL2 is gonna kik ass. Halo 2 i found reely repetitive in the campaign but Live is good.

I can't give a full review of Doom 3(Xbox) yet....I am only like 4 hours into it. I have never played the PC version, but Doom 3 has the best graphics I have seen on the Xbox...IMHO. The gameplay so far has been pretty repetitive I guess you could say -- but it is in line with the story. I am loving this game so far. I also can't comment on Multiplayer -- I don't have LIVE, but I believe that this game is more suited for single player play --- I guess that is why ID software developed Quake -- for multiplayer.

Of the ones I've tried recently:
HALO2 - fun but short, a friend and I ran through the whole game in 2 (not very long) sessions. Also I have to say I didn't really care for the "playing the other side" aspect of it.
Conflict: Vietnam - I love the conflict series (nothing to write home about wrt graphics but it has the best method of squad control I've come across so far) but this one suffered from being too realistic IMHO, frequently you are getting shot w/ no idea of where it is coming from.
Men of Valor - same issue as w/ Conflict, decent graphics and ok game play but the getting shot out of nowhere drove me up the wall.
Doom3 - great graphics and effects, very repetitive though.
SW: Republic Commando - interesting squad control mechanism, very short/easy though.
SW: Battleground - fun and good for quick games/blowing a little time, I assume it's more fun online (I don't have live myself).

I can't wait 4 far cry instincts as well, the traps sound intriguing. One BIG let down was Halo 2 as i hve mentioned: 2 short, campaign was jus borin, grenades have been toned down, hijacking is good, but way 2 easy 2 pull off and the plasma sword jus ruins the weapons balance. The first is the best anyday of the week. i have 2 admit tho Live is superb fun, sorry 2 rub it in2 u wlj!

I've been playing Brothers in Arms for 3 days in hard mode. I've died repeatedly and is not due to difficulty, but you must use military strategy to flank, suppress, take down the enemy. So far I like it more than Republic Commando's (too short and ending sucks) and Halo 2 (same as Commando's)...

Brothers in Arms is easily the best FPS I have played thus far on the Xbox. Halo 2 comes in close 2nd.
I am a big audiophile and Brothers In Arms delivers in spades.....you feel every single shot fired and the bass pumps hard when the mortars start going off.
I have to disagree about the replay value though. I think the replay value is very high if you have high expectations for yourself. I am trying to beat the game on normal mode without losing any men as I progress(I know some of them die regardless) but if I can beat a mission with better performance then I shoot for that.
I picked up Doom 3 and although it looks great I had to put it down and again pick up Brothers in Arms and try to finish another mission.

I just tried Brother's in Arms and I have to say I found it more tedious than First to Fight (your squad needs a lot more hand holding IMHO) and more repetitive than Doom3 (supress, flank, repeat). I can see where people would enjoy it but I only made it to the 3rd or 4th scenario (clearing the field of poles) and decided I didn't want to waste any more time w/ it.

Overall no matter how you grade it the list as a whole is still impressive. A year ago everybody was asking where the heck are the FPS games? There is no question you have some choices here. For me it's..
Unreal Championship 2...(14) characters to play and (40) maps to play on. FPS combined with melee action plus some of the most impressive level design seen period.
Pariah... I know some are saying it's so-so but there's more to this game than meets the eye. Mainly the "Map Editor". What is that..build it and they will come. Not only can you shape the landscape but builings and the weather. It use's the Unreal engine and these folks had a hand in the first Unreal and Unreal 2003 for the pc. Read the weapon layout and how the upgade system works.
Black Hawk Down...Again (50+) players online. It may have sub-par graphics by most standards but I'd like a chance at a (50+) major team battle online in a second. There's also several game types to choose from. The landscape is very, very large so you're not really restrained. Ever what to snipe from a helicopter? Man a 50 cal in a Humvee?
Close Combat:First To Fight.. The screen shots looked great. There's a thread on this game and it doesn't sound to bad. There's a few buggy items here and there. From what I've seen the average rate on this is 8.0 -8.7. This maybe a rental first.

Timesplitters:Future Perfect - Fun game.....I really enjoy it, lots of options, mapmaker
The story mode is kind of short (I didn't time it but it was certainly less than 10hours) and while nothing spectacular it did have a couple of fun twists. The
is for all the extras they packed into this one as well though. A series of challenge games and bot matches (for those of us w/o live) will certainly give you enough to work w/ for awhile trying to unlock everything. Not to mention the map maker (although quite frankly that looked a little more complicated than I would ever probably waste time w/ but that's just me). Anyway this is the first in my recent batch of rentals that is definately going on the "must buy" list.

Anyway this is the first in my recent batch of rentals that is definately going on the "must buy" list.I'm loving the new Timesplitters too (though it's competing for time with Jade Empire). First time I've bought the series on the Xbox, and I've noticed no difference as far as controls go. The amount of extras are insane, though for some reason I think Timesplitters 2 had more, and I probably won't ever use 75% of the characters.
It really is just an excuse for the developers to piece together different locales and call it a single FPS. Still has that vintage Goldeneye feel, though I think the controls are a little less precise than Halo. Playing with bots is great, though, and is what sets this game apart in my eyes (haven't played Doom 3 yet, though).
