This is BS. Look at the computer software market, they may come out at the same price, but the PC market drops their price way faster and by a lot more than on the console market. I do not pay retail for any game, either through sales or trade ins, but I refuse to pay $50, so I damn sure will refuse to pay $60. I thought they would be smart and come out at a $35-40 price point, but I guess they figure they can milk a few extra bucks out of some kids.

The PC market is slightly different. Remember that all the game companies have to give money to the console makers (Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo) for every game sold. So they are able to drop the price on PC titles much faster and still make a decent profit because they don't have to pay royalties to anyone.

60 bucks and a likely entry point of over 250 bucks for the hardware....I have a good job, but I also don't like bleeding money.
Remember the old days when you could get the Atari for "Under 50 bucks!!"

Since you're talking about prices at a new system's release, no, I don't remember that.
I remember the Atari VCS being $220. That's over $600 today.
And I remember the Intellivision being $350 (over $850 today) before it actually had a price INcrease in the spring of '81 to $370.

I've read some news stories about the price increases. The games are going to be $54.99 to $59.99 for the next gen consoles.......but only if the gaming public accepts it.
If the sales of games become sluggish, you'll see the prices drop. They can only charge what we're willing to pay.
