Retrogame Challenge #31 (2/27-3/6)

Week 31 is over!
The Rules:
  1. To enter, you just play one of the games and post a screenshot (F12 key in MAME) with your score.
  2. The deadline to post your high scores will be Sunday 9:00 PM Eastern US time.
  3. Winners must choose a new game before the deadline. If not, the high score is still up for grabs until one is chosen.
  4. The games should be at least 10 years old and ones we haven't played before.
  5. Any scores you submit should be played during the week of the contest using no continues or any features of the emulator that you wouldn't get by playing the actual machine.

So far we have only been using MAME to play the games, but that can change, if the winner so chooses.
New to MAME? Feel free to ask questions here or read the tutorials
I am going to host the current ROMs and list of all the past winners and high scores here.

The Games:
(click the titles for info and how to play)

Puzzle Bobble (Japan System-B) - Score to beat: D300 10408880

Rastan (US set 1) - Score to beat: Roto 104700

Robotron: 2084 (Solid Blue label) - Score to beat: D300 312475

The Prize:
Whoever gets the high score for one of the games picks the next game that replaces it, so we should always have 3 to choose from. You also get your name engraved permanently etched onto this eye catching trophy with a genuine Sharpie!

This Week's Winners:

Robotron unfortunately my Robotron/Visual Pinball controller won't be ready for another month or so.

Not bad for my fist try at this game in 10 years or so.

I'm sure it will be beat easily. But here is my score

I always hated that level and it gives me problems every time.

Wow! That looks great! What else needs to be done to it?

Thanks, I have to do all the electronics, wiring, leds etc. Still need to paint and design the playfield area. It was originally going to be a Visual Pinball controller only. But then I saw these Wico leaf joysticks with the Robotron handles on Ebay and it turned into the "RoboPinball".

A better score but way below the "high score" posted in the game.

That's an insane score. I can only get to 175k with some serious luck. How do you get a score like that?

There are a couple of levels that give huge bonuses for clearing a level in a certain way. Here's a game that ended on level 16 and is about a million points higher than the other screenshots that ended on level 16, because I got the bonus.

But all those huge bonuses are moot when you get to level 8. I regularly get there with 2.5 million, but then since it's nearly impossible, I lose... still working on it

Since you're getting 2.5 million, there isn't really any advice that I can give you. We're basically at the same level. Level 16 was a barrier for me, at that level you just have to be accurate and make very few mistakes.

I should win for being the only one quick enough to get an ingame screenshot of Rastan.

And Wazootyman isn't getting 2.5 million on level 8, he's getting 250,000.

There's no way you can get 2.5 mil going up to level 8.. you get your first 1 mil bonus at level 9 and then again on level 13.
