I don't remember toys in the late 70's being packaged in shoeboxes.
At any rate, good luck finding these. There has got to be someone out there that still has them. It's just a matter of finding the right place to post your ad. I would try those vintage toy stores and/or pawn shops. You could also try searching for a forum of Trekkies; they might be able to help.
Also, some friendly advice for you Achau, don't give up your current job to become a sketch artist.

Also, thanks for the tip on the Trek forums. I'll try those out as well.

As for myself, I enjoy collecting old Japanese toy robots. Most are made by Bandai (i.e. Chogokins, Godaikins, Mazinger) but these are easier to find than the item your looking for. Good luck and report back on your results.

Just wanted to post a quick update. One of these has popped up on eBay, so I placed a bid - then emailed the seller stating my intentions with this (for my father) to see if he would consider selling it to me now so that I could have it for my father's surprise birthday party. He in turn posted my question to him on the auction with the response - "keep bidding". What a nice guy.

Anyway, here's hoping you're the only one bidding and again, good luck.

That's cool, those are the ones I was referring to. I remember buying it new for $9.99 on clearance one year. We had a lot of fun with them, and amazingly, one of them still worked for years. I sold it on eBay a few years back, still in working condition.
